Dew: All I want as a fantasy kingdom’scivilian is for my ruler not to run away mid-fight and then take a phat nap afterward to dream about his version of a perfect day. Devy, please wake up.

EPISODE 32 RECAP

After Orchid dies, Devy falls into deep depression. No, it is much worse than that, he finds no reason to live and encloses himself in a dream. In this dream, he and Orchid live happily ever after at the Archive. To keep this dream from ever ending, he burns his own immortal spirit. This is only for a limited time, when the Dream Fire burns out, Devy will die. Remember when we thought Yehua was stupid for attempting to burn his spirit to bring his dead wife back to life?

This is on a whole other level of pressing snooze on your morning alarms.

No one knows what to do about this. According to the exposition Moon guy, one wrong move from them and Devy will be snuffed out.

Shangque decides to pour his own energy into the Fire to keep it going. Xunfeng and the other guys follow suit. Inside the Dream, Devy and Orchid are together, sharing something so glorious and profound no ordinary soul can ever comprehend. And by that I mean they’re cuddling.

At that time, Changheng pays the Moon People a visit.

The way he just pops in and is within 5 feet of the leader of the enemy’s side is so mind-boggling; he wouldn’t be alive if this “war” was real.

Changheng thinks Orchid is still alive and has a plan to bring her back. He says there’s no way Orchid can be dead when their wedding that everyone saw in the vision at the Archive hasn’t happened yet. But he needs Devy’s help for that. Do we, really?

With Xunfeng’s reluctant support, Changheng enters the Dream. He tries to talk Devy into leaving but the latter kicks him out. Needless to say, Changheng is on another level of pissed.

Out of options, all the men attempt a brute force attack at the Dream bubble Devy has created.

Inside the Dream, Devy tells Orchid that he has always known this is a dream. She starts crying. A LOT. But he says he should leave. We don’t know whether it’s because of the men’s collective attack from the outside, or their yelling, or Devy’s own force, but the Dream is destroyed at last and Devy wakes up from his coma.

Later that day, Shangque and Xunfeng hang out for a bit. They both blame themselves for what Orchid suffered. From Xunfeng, Shangque learns that Jieli isn’t as heartless as she made him believe. She actually did her best to help him and Orchid against Ronghao recently.

Ah, nothing like some good bro talks in fabulous hair and great wine to end the day.

Ronghao and his Shifu are living peacefully in a bamboo forest. He plays music for her but she can feel something is wrong. She tells him to learn some new tunes his music doesn’t sound as pure as before. When Ronghao responds that everything is fine, she pulls out her sword and slashes. The beautiful scene around them crumbles, it has been an illusion all along. She isn’t called “Shifu” for nothing.

Upon discovering that she has somewhat been possessed by the Evil Voice and that Ronghao has committed countless crimes to resurrect her, Shifu makes him go and confess to the Heaven Court.

The Heaven Lord let Shifu resume her duties and put Ronghao in an immortal time out. It’s weird to see the Heaven lord be all magnanimous but I’m sure it’s with an agenda.

Assistant lady saves Jieli from dying and uses it to ask for Liyuan’s help to rescue her master.

Jieli is Dayin’s twin sister, they were separated from birth due to the fact that Jieli inherited their mother Moon’s looks and energy. In a frantic attempt to hide her, they lost her. Anyway, Dayin isn’t happy that she’s no longer daddy’s only girl.

This is such a random side plot in the midst of everything else going on. But I’m glad they’re making use of the side character?

Changheng and Devy visit Orchid’s teacher, the Mistress of the Archive. She’s living in seclusion. She gets a grand introduction and I’m not surprised, it’s Li Yitong, after all.

She tells them there is, indeed, a way to bring Orchid back. It turns out that due to their collision in the beginning, a part of her spirit lives inside Devy. So all we need to do now is grab that bit, put it inside a seed, and grow it into a plant. Good, Devy is a pro at gardening now so this should be easy.

My god, Devy is a Horcrux???

But Changheng has another question for the Archive Mistress. He wants to know if the vision of him and Orchid getting married will happen since a lot of people have seen it.

If it’s written in destiny, then it can’t be changed, she responds.

Changheng glances at Devy and is like, dude, did you hear that?

I love that she tells the boys to bring good wine next time they visit. That should be a given if you’re meeting someone for the first time to tell them their only student has died and they need some tips on how to revive her.

The Archive Mistress requests a moment alone with Devy. She gives him Orchid’s Destiny Book and says that only he has the power to change her fate.
