‘The Starry Love’: Ep. 21 Recap — Chaofeng Finally Picks a Lane

EPISODE 21

When Dingyun talks to his mom, the Void Queen, about how he saw “Youqin” and Yetan the other day, she calls him an idiot for not attacking them right then.

Inside the magic ball Dilanjue has sealed them, Haichao decides he needs to make Chaofeng feel worse, which I support.

We were doing just fine, and you just haaad to fall in love with her, Haichao sings. Chaofeng shouts back at him, and before we know it, they fight, dragging the maid Sushui into it too.

As they struggle and roll back and forth, the ball rocks and falls off its holder. Who even puts a SPHERICAL object on a stand like this?

It rolls and rolls to, guess whom? Lamu, who is looking for some shiny rocks to make more rock flowers for Yetan. Not knowing what this ball is, Lamu smashes it into pieces with his hammer, releasing the three people inside. Oops.

Lamu rages when he sees Chaofeng, but Qingkui and Dilanjue come in just in time to stop him.

Qingkui snaps at Chaofeng for being so stubborn still, but Chaofeng informs them all that he has deduced something important: Dingyun is here! Very near Youqin Soul #2.

The gang runs off to help Yetan. Halfway, Qingkui suddenly has a heart attack, she knows right away that Yetan has just been attacked.

And she has, indeed. Dingyun and his mom are causing chaos at Meiyouqing’s residence; and since Meiyouqing (AND his entire assassin group) has no combat skills, Yetan and Manman have to defend them.

The gang arrives, yay! Dilanjue turns into a wolf and launches at them; Ziwu shoots dainty little magic needles at them – she is adorable; and Chaofeng finally has no choice but to fight for real, revealing his true abilities.

In the end, they rescue Yetan and Meiyouqing and fly away on Manman. Chaofeng and Haichao stay behind to deal with Dingyun and Mom.

DINGYUN: You have no choice but death.

CHAOFENG: I’m not the one who needs his mommy’s help to kill someone.

HAICHAO: *laughs hysterically in the background*

QUEEN: Speaking of mommies, how’s yours, Chaofeng?

Oh no, Consort Xue has been captured as a hostage. Void Queen says she will let Consort Xue go if Chaofeng agrees to swallow a pill that seals his power forever.

After some inner struggle, Chaofeng agrees. No trick this time, he swallows that milk chocolate-looking thing for real.

Yetan, on the other hand, is pretty badly injured. She was struck with the Void Frost Poison (or something like that), and the only way to heal her is to expose her to magic fire/heat. It has to be fire created by burning hundreds and thousands of pure gold blocks.

Who has that kind of money? Even if they did, the time it would take to convince them to give that much gold away would kill Yetan.

But, oh, we’re forgetting Meiyouqing. He has that kind of money. All safely locked up in his private closet.

The moment of true love has come: Meiyouqing agrees to burn all the gold to make that heat for Yetan. He has finally learnt to put Yetan above wealth.

Yetan absorbs the heat and gradually gets better.

Now, there is also a small task the gang must keep in mind: they have to keep Lamu away from Meiyouqing.

We can’t let Youqin know that Yetan cheats on Youqin with Youqin, can we?

Chaofeng carries Consort Xue on his back all the way back to the city, which is odd, because, isn’t Haichao still able to teleport? They meet Qingkui and Sushui there. Unfortunately for Chaofeng, Yetan also finds Qingkui shortly afterwards.

Without hesitation, Yetan tells her sister that this is the man who attempted to assassinate Wudai that day.

Chaofeng is unfazed, he’s about to break up with Qingku anyway. He is unable to protect her now so it’s only traditional in a fantasy drama that he drives the girl away.

He goes along with what Yetan says and even adds some spice to the story. Yep, I switched the sedans and got your girls in trouble; yep, I tricked you into working for me this whole time. Pretty good, huh?

But what about today? Qingkui asks. Chaofeng obviously helped her and Yetan. But Chaofeng says he was just there to kill the second Soul. Which is a pretty lame lie; if he’d wanted to kill Meiyouqing, he and Haichao could have done so quickly and easily and been back on time for lunch too. Dingyun and Void Queen are no match for them.

But Qingkui, of course, is heartbroken. She knows something is wrong but is unable to sort things through right now.
