‘The Starry Love’: Ep. 12 Recap — He Dies (But Not Really)

Quippe: Nobody cares what the Heaven King says, even though he kind of makes sense.

Dew: I don’t want anyone to complain about feeling pressure from your parents unless you are the oldest son of the Heavens who was raised to believe your sole purpose of living is to become perfect and save the world by sacrificing yourself at just the right moment while having zero expectation that anyone who cares about you might find a way to save your butt.

EPISODE 12

We get CG explosions and Yetan yelling for about 3 minutes straight in the beginning because it looks like Youqin is dead. Noo… not the first person who gave her a full meal!

Youqin is on the brink of life and death and in his mind, Yetan appears but alas, this is not about to be a kiss of life kind of scene!

The Yetan in his mind repeats the words she said before he left – that it’s ok to be afraid but he doesn’t have to be, because it’s just proof of how much of the real world he cherishes. Well, he definitely got one more thing in life to value than he realized.

He gathers his magical energy, puts the dark force back in place, then flies back out.

Chaofeng wants to take this opportunity to finish the Heaven Realm, so he summons a dragon and gets ready to fight. But as soon as Youqin fights back, Chaofeng is like, never mind.

This new Celestial Power Youqin has is going out in huge waves and hitting everyone with a pulse.

The Void Army flee.

And NOW Youqin dies. He spits out a generous amount of blood and collapses. Yetan and his family bring him home and ask the three friendly deities to do what they can, which they do, but he’s too far gone. His spirit has dissipated.

This Friendly Trio do all kinds of jobs, it seems. They welcome newly wedded couples, they provide dating services, and now they’re doctors, too.

Youqin’s body turns into golden dust. Yetan is more devastated than she thought she would be.

But lo and behold, the Heaven Queen and the court have a way to bring Youqin back. If they can gather the shattered pieces of Youqin’s soul, he will live again. It’s actually… pretty simple.

The execution of this idea is not simple, however. If they fail to collect all the soul pieces or mess up something in the process, not only will Youqin not come back, they may risk creating a monster that will destroy the world.

Yetan and everyone are willing to take the risk, but the Heaven King isn’t. To collect the soul pieces, they need someone powerful and connected to Youqin in some way.

Prince Qingheng can’t go because he is needed here in case the Void People spring another surprise attack on them. That makes sense, intelligence may be scarce among the Void Royals, but we’ve all seen the amount of muscle they’ve got. They’re a real threat.

Youqin’s sister and mother are, of course, not powerful enough to do this. So, Yetan volunteers.

The Heaven king doesn’t allow it because what if Yetan messes it up. He forbids Qingheng and Yetan to try anything. Yetan calls the Heaven King an old git who only cares about his throne. Yetan makes a point to despise parents who don’t prioritize their children, you see, even if they may have a valid reason to do so.

Maybe Yetan spoke too soon and the king was about to say that his plan is to possibly revive Youqin. But under the assumption that the king won’t entertain even the small chance that the Queen’s plan could work, Yetan’s moral compass is not letting her give up without trying.

But since everyone in the Heaven agrees with Yetan and the queen, they all turn a blind eye when Yetan and her friends run away to execute the plan.

So here’s the plan (according to the Friendly Trio): besides the bits and pieces Yetan have collected in Youqin’s private dome, three big pieces of Youqin’s soul have fallen down the mortal realm and are probably in the form of three men.

Because Yetan has been chosen by the Bridge of Love as Youqin’s destiny, if she can make all three Youqins fall in love with her, they will come together and return to form a full Youqin.

Easy. Just give Yetan some BBQ ribs and a hotpot and she can take on ten Youqins at once.

In the Void Realm, the Void King punishes his older sons and gives Chaofeng a promotion because he’s the only one who didn’t get his butt kicked by Qingheng.

Wudai and Dingyun are sent to prison. Bad news! Because they’re heading to the same deluxe cell Qingkui is staying. Chaofeng’s little romance with her might be discovered.

However, the jailer’s got it under control. He sends Qingkui away and greets Wudai and Dingyun.

WUDAI: What’s a zither doing here?

JAILER: *beats strings* To welcome Your Royal Highnesses.

WUDAI: Why is there human food here?

JAILER: New human cook. New recipes. Try it, try it!

I feel like the people who work for Chaofeng don’t get paid enough.
