‘The Starry Love’: Ep. 11 Recap — Lots of Kings in One Place

Quippe: This is how battles between immortals should be written. You don’t just send one suicidal guy out to fight; everyone who can do something should go out there to do something.

Dew: Anyone else wish it was the Heavenly King that’s going into Guixu in place of Youqin instead of raising his kid to be a sacrifice?

EPISODE 11

When Yetan is back to her original size, Youqin is already gone. The Beast Prince – as heartbroken as he is –  gives her his new invention so she can go and find Youqin to say goodbye: a pair of wings! As effective and cool as something Tony Stark made.

He’s still secretly crossing his fingers she’ll change her mind. This boy is as stubborn as his puppy form is cute.

Yetan finds the site where everyone is camping to wait for Youqin, who has already jumped into the black hole to neutralize the threat. As they already know and accept, he may not come back.

Excellent outfit choice for a world-saving, self-sacrificing act! Really, I love a good layered-shoulder-armor look. Youqin sees Yetan shouting for him but he’s made up his mind. Into Guixu he goes as his mom tells Yetan the Eyes that Youqin puts in her heart will still shine if he’s still alive. This thing must have crazy good signals.

Yetan’s father also comes, he is worried that “Qingkui” might be in danger. This saddens Yetan, who is listening from afar.

Also to note: that’s a loooot of kings in one place already and you know what they say about too many cooks in the kitchen.

Seconds later, the Void King arrives, declaring war right away and challenging the Heaven King to single combat. Void King doesn’t seem to have any strategy, but he does look like he works out a lot more than the Heaven King, so we have reasons to be nervous.

The mortal king tries a little to reduce the tension between Zeus and Hades here, but the latter wants a fight at all costs. So the mortal king and his friend the Beast King just kind of bow out.

The best survival skill is to know when to exit.

They fight, the Heaven King loses and the two sides charge. Things don’t look good for the Heaven soldiers.

Yetan has a sudden idea that if she tells the Void King she is the real Yetan, he might let her live, because of course, she doesn’t want to die. Poor Yetan is too used to surviving on her own that she never considers the possibility of anyone wanting to protect her.

But the Heaven Queen does! She promises to protect Yetan with her life, and so do the three friendly deities and Youqin’s sister. This reminds me of a theme in most of Sandra Bullock’s movies where the girl pretends to be someone she is not but then finds a family in the people she lies to.

Anyway, I hope they won’t be too mad at Yetan when they find out who she is.

The three Void Princes, on the other hand, attack the Heaven Palace. But our cautious Youqin had everything planned out beforehand. He created a formation, which stalls the Void army, then puts the Heaven troops in the hands of a capable commander: his younger brother Qingheng whom everyone else underestimates.

Including myself, I’m sorry Qingheng. I’m just glad we’re seeing more of your character than just you getting repeatedly stranger-zoned by the coriander plant!

Youqin letting his assistant Feichi stay here is a good thing too because this guy is great with pep talks. He gives Qingheng an inspiring speech about courage and self-worth and that does wonders. The young prince gathers his strength and finishes the job Youqin started.

They capture Wudai and Dingyun. Chaofeng and Haichao realize that their army is losing, so they put on their masks – which only cover like ¾ of their faces; what, like, the lower half of one cheek does not need protection? – and dash.

At the cliff, Yetan stalls the Void King from slaughtering them with her best weapon: words. She talks and talks and talks.

Finally, Qingheng arrives with a backup army, along with the Void Princes whom they have captured. The Void King isn’t happy with his sons. All that investment in the gym and they couldn’t even beat a young prince half their size and one-third their weight?

VOID KING: Useless things.

QINGHENG: No, they were pretty good. My big brother was just better.

Inside the vortex, Youqin does his thing and passes out.
