Eternal Love of Dream – Unhelpful Recap (Episode 34)

Jiheng is good as new again after Donghua extracted the demon energy from her body. She expresses her need for the Fruit of Immortality; since some whatchamacallit poison is still inside her because of her last incident from the last arc, she has to have this Fruit to cure herself.

Donghua agrees to give her the Fruit. Not only that, he also said he never intended to give it to Fengjiu or any of the students in the first place. But why? I hope Donghua’s decision is a part of some grander plan, otherwise this is just a d!@k move.

Fengjiu and the other students are bewildered when peaches are sent to Fengjiu instead of the promised Fruit. Xiaoyan is especially angry on Fengjiu’s behalf.

As Fengjiu walks around and tries to figure out her next step, she runs into Jiheng. Knowing her priorities, Fengjiu swallows her pride and asks Jiheng if she is willing to share the Fruit. The latter refuses point-blank. OK, what are you trying to do here, Jiheng? Cure yourself AND revive that maid/bodyguard of yours?

Jiheng also tells Fengjiu that she should stay away from Donghua. Yeah, OK…

Out of options, Fengjiu decides to fight the pythons that guard the Fruit and steal it.

Liansong comes to visit that day after a gossip session with Si-ming and tells Donghua that Fengjiu is the fox he lost many years ago. You mean to tell me that all this time, the I’m-so-powerful-everything-is-boring Donghua has never connected the dots about the fox mystery?

Aren’t immortals in this universe able to identify other immortals by prodding at each other’s “essence” or something? Isn’t that how you can tell people apart even when they happen to look alike?

Anyway, Donghua is really depressed now that he has hurt his “Xiaobai”, especially when she is the same girl who went to the mortal realm to help him through his trial. So, in fact, he did not have a plan when he took Fengjiu’s rightful reward from her.

Liansong concludes his talk by advising Donghua not to let any more misunderstanding happen. Which probably means there WILL be more misunderstanding.

Fengjiu tries her best but is trapped by the pythons in a Dream Bubble. It’s an ancient spell cast by princess Aranya of this Bird Kingdom.

Donghua and everyone arrive at the place and he decides to enter this Dream formation to get Fengjiu out. Liansong worries about this decision because, who will guard the world if something happens to Donghua? Erm… Yehua? And his equally suicidal twin brother?

While Donghua fights the Dream spell, Jiheng has a little heart-to-heart with Xiaoyan. She says she appreciates him, but won’t give up on Donghua.

On a different note, Fengjiu and Donghua get to plant sleepy kisses on each other inside the Dream.

COMMENTS

This episode is a turning point for Fengjiu and Donghua, no more beating about the bush about her identity.

But maybe the truth about Fengjiu and the fox should have been delivered to Donghua in a different fashion. Why is something this important – and so complicated that Donghua couldn’t figure out himself – revealed to him by Liansong, who learned it from Si-ming, through an exposition conversation?

It just seems overly convenient and anti-climatic.

As for the struggle in the Aranya Dream – maybe… more action and less kissing? If not for me then for General Ye, OK? Take your mission seriously, Fengjiu and Donghua.

  1. “whatchamacallit” 🤣🤣🤣🤣… Ooww I kind of love how he finds out, but I guess is a little bit to rush on the drama. Liasong could have taken a littl3 more time to explain, or done it with more drama…it was to rush.

    1. Author

Yes, definitely a bit too rushed. Maybe a bit more suffering for Donghua before he knows the whole truth 😂

  2. This part for me is just the breaking point for FengJiu old love because Donghua’s stupid thinking. In the book I was so f@#$&&$& angry, and Feng is totally heartbroken. I’m not sure if the series captured correctly but for Feng, each of their interactions after being a fox (and being almost killed by Donghua’s pet) had been decreasing her love for him and this one action was “the drop”. I think in the series a little more drama was missing in this points, maybe to don’t make us unfall-in-love for Donghua. And very conviniently, in the next episode, she won’t remember this part. I swear in the book when this happened I was exhausted, by both parts: Donghua’s childish actions, and Fengjiu’s blindness towards what was happening.
