Dream of Splendour – Unhelpful Recap (Ep. 25)

Fight, fight! It’s an exciting fight scene between the Hat Demon gang and Qianfan, who jumps onto the boat to save his father. The half-brother is there too and does his best.

But there are too many of them and one Hat guy manages to pierce Qianfan on one side of his chest. Lord Xiao is like: SON! And the half-brother is like: BROTHER! Oh, so now he’s your brother, huh?

Qianfan swings at the Hat guy, stabbing him square at the neck. It’s the man who works for Qi Mu.

Qianfan needs emergency care immediately but the boat is still too far from shore. The whole town is watching from along the river and on the bridge.

Pan’er passes by. And apparently, she’s the only one who thinks about calling for help. She casts a line up to at boat so it can be pulled ashore. And would you believe that only when she shouts for help do these people run over to help her pull the line? What is wrong with this town?

When the boat is close enough, Pan’er runs up and finds Qianfan unconscious with Lord Xiao and the half-brother in a panic. Pan’er reaches into Qianfan’s pocket and snatches out a firecracker, then shoots it up in the air as a distress signal.

She then moves on to remove contaminated blood from Qianfan’s chest because he was stabbed with a poisoned sword. It’s cool and all but again, I’ve got to ask, is Pan’er the only one who knows what to do in these situations? There isn’t much to expect from the half-brother, but shouldn’t Lord Xiao be able to do more than just sitting there and shouting Qianfan’s name? Or shouldn’t at least try to help Pan’er once she has explained what needs to be done?

Chen Lian leads a troop to the rescue. They carry Qianfan away and Pan’er is left not knowing whether he will live or die.

She goes home bewildered and distressed; she even snaps at Yinzhang when the latter suggests inviting Qianfan over for a party some time.

Yinzhang doesn’t come to work the next day, the quarrel with Pan’er is just another drop on the giant pool of her emotional problems lately.

As if things are not bad enough already, Pan’er gets told the next day that all the ice vendors in town won’t do business with her because Chi Pan has forbidden them to. OK, this is not the time for your childish pettiness, Chi Pan!

San-niang goes out to see if she can get ice anywhere. On the way, she witnesses Du Changfeng being thrown rocks at by his students. Some of the rocks hit her too. It was too much. She storms into the school and teaches them a lesson right in front of their headmaster. I’m pretty sure this would never have been allowed to happen in this time period, but I guess San-niang got a bunch of men and boys under control, so… whatever?

The important thing is San-niang and Du Changfeng both improve their views of each other afterward.

Yinzhang hasn’t recovered from her fight with Pan’er. It doesn’t help that on the same day, she finds out about Pan’er’s real relationship with Qianfan, and that everyone knew except her! She decides to put an end to her hopeless situation by accepting Ruzo’s offer. Not out of true love, for sure. Yinzhang is eager to find happiness, so eager that she’s doing it all wrong. They hug and I can only pray that this guy is not a phony.
