Quippe: This episode is all about the men putting coats around their women.
Dew: Lots of stuff has happened since the princess’ first days and despite many things going wrong, there’s no denying everyone has found something likable about the other person past their first impressions. This episode brings both couples together for the first time, away from everyone else, to have a moment by themselves before heading into the next big storm.
EPISODE 9 RECAP
One day, when they’re alone – and by alone, I mean their two servants are watching them from afar – Chaofeng apologizes to Qingkui. He even shares a bit of his sad childhood with her. Hmm, he doesn’t seem sincere, though. Looks like this is still part of his plan to gain her alliance.
Anyway, meteor shower. Qingkui’s maid fangirls over it in the distance.
Imagine if Wudai saw this, though. Heads would roll.
Chaofeng admits to Qingkui that he didn’t like the idea of Qingkui caring about Wudai the same way she cares about him (Chaofeng), that’s what caused him to lose it with Wudai. As beautiful as that sounds, this guy still looks very suspicious.
Note that Qingkui doesn’t flinch at his Shrek hands.
Afterwards, Qingkui expresses the wish to meet Chaofeng’s mother. She wants to check if the mother is in good health, given all that tragic history Chaofeng has given her.
Chaofeng sends his assistant back home to warn his mother – Consort Xue – who is FINE. More than fine, actually. She springs into action immediately to impress Qingkui, and that means making herself look poor and starved.
That apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
Youqin takes Yetan far away from the overenthusiastic people, all the way to the milky way, I guess.
But he forgets that it’s freezing and so poor Yetan is now just a human icicle. A very angry one. He tries to help by bringing over some heat but didn’t realize the heat source was too much for her human skin and the result is: BBQ Yetan.
He explains to Yetan about the stars. As a prince of the heaven, Youqin also has the ability to grant wishes if anyone wishes upon falling stars. Not like a genie’s wishes, but if you wish for something and Youqin takes it seriously, he can increase the chance of the wish coming true.
Yetan goes for it right away: I wanna be the best in everything and rule the world!
Yetan is hilarious.
Youqin quickly makes her stop, it’s too ridiculous a wish for him to grant.
But Yetan has one more wish, she wants Youqin to remove the “spying eyes”. This, he can do.
But turns out, because Yetan has messed with the magic too many times, the “eyes” are clinging to her more tightly as a form of security. It’s like when you try to break into an ipad and it locks you out for attempting too many wrong passwords.
So what Yetan needs to do now is behave, truly BEHAVE, and leave the “eyes” alone, then after a while, Youqin will be able to pluck them out.
Poor Yetan signs. It seems bad luck is still following her. But she doesn’t complain this time. Aww, this little act of accepting fate from her touches Youqin. He sits down and keeps her company.
Youqin gives Yetan a good luck token made from a constellation – I think – and assures her that misfortune is not out to get her. As long as she makes good use of her talents and cleverness, she can do great things. And he supports that. That is, if she doesn’t turn his hair into a broccoli head again.
He tells her he hopes like the lore of this constellation, she can shine brighter and live righteously with no fear.
The look in Yetan’s eyes shows it all. It’s not the star Youqin just pulled from the galaxy to give her, it’s the bittersweet fact that out of the thousands of horrible people who thought she was “bad” personified since she was born, he’s someone who believes that there’s goodness in her. It’s her choice to live up to it.
I’m touched. He’s healing child-Yetan’s heart.
Time to go back. Youqin lends Yetan his coat so she won’t get cold on the way back. I don’t know how that can help, though, the fabric he puts on her is thinner than a sheen curtain.
Shhhh magical curtain cloak, Quippe doesn’t mean that, you’re very useful.
Back at Yetan’s place, Manman is getting veeeery suspicious at Yetan’s spacing out and staring at her magic star rock thingy. So she asks the magic question with their eyeballs almost touching: Yetan, are you in L-O-V-E?? Cue the “is it love” realization music!
Speaking of love, the Beast Prince Puppy falls into Yetan’s place! Oops, wrong lover.
Back in his normal body, he’s ready to fight Youqin to rescue Yetan; but not so fast, Yetan gives him a knee kick and tells him she can’t leave because of the Spy Eyes he put on her.
Realizing her friend risked his safety to come save her, Yetan thanks him. They’re shocked to hear her say this, but she’s sincere. She tells him if it wasn’t for him treating her well, unlike everyone else since she was young, she wouldn’t have made it this far. Any short flashback to young Yetan squeezes my heart! She was just a child!
Buuuut…that’s why they are best as friends! And nothing more! Yetan stamps her final stamp. This is a big heartbreak for such a small puppy.
Yetan announces she will not be tied down by love and emotions! Well, the immediate thunder strikes after she says this gives us a different idea.
The weather is going crazy and something’s rumbling from Guxui and it’s not Youqin and Yetan gettin’ naughty again.
