How come nobody wants to run away with Yetan?
EPISODE 15
Faced with Wudai’s monstrous mountain of a proposal, Qingkui takes the honest route and says that she doesn’t deserve Wudai, then goes back inside with Chaofeng, making clear which prince she has chosen.
Wudai has a breakdown right there but also gets back on his feet quickly. He decides to go back to protect the border and achieve greater things, then he will return to ask for Qingkui’s hand again. He handles rejection surprisingly well, and his idea of courtship is actually quite simple. Under different circumstances, I would’ve shipped him with Qingkui.
A report comes for Chaofeng: bizarre things have been going on at the borders, things involving magic from the Heaven Clan.
Chaofeng’s investigation leads him to the same mortal town Yetan is frequenting. Some more investigation and he knows everything: Yetan is friends with a “Fire Demon” with Youqin’s face, who is very likely to be Youqin himself.
After Chaofeng’s abrupt departure, Qingkui demands to know all the facts. Her maid Sushui then just kind of… gives her Chaofeng’s report. This girl has been a big fan of Qingkui and Chaofeng from the beginning, so I guess it makes sense that she wants them to get together no matter what.
Off Qingkui goes to that same mortal town. This complicates things for Chaofeng because it usually isn’t his rivals that thwart his plan, it is Qingkui and her innocent kitten stares.
Yetan continues to work with Lamu the Fire Demon. Because he said he wants to gain the villagers’ trust, she shaves his beard, trims his hair, and gives him her fire-proof robe to wear over this red/black combo outfit — it contains his fire and makes him more presentable.
Not good enough for the villagers, though. They call him a demon even when he tries to be nice. When he gives a kid a toy, eggs and rocks come flying at him!
Just a side note: this village doesn’t look like they have food to spare; and this isn’t a city where people can restock groceries any time they want. Why waste eggs like that?
When they try to hurt Yetan, Lamu rips off the white robe and starts shooting fire again. Good for you, Lamu, these villagers don’t deserve your effort.
But even so, when Yetan asks Lamu to run away with her, he refuses and drives her away in anger. He wants to stay here and fulfil his promise to the boy who died.
Unable to understand what the heck is in Lamu’s head, Yetan leaves and ventures into the city with Manman to blow off some steam.
They run into Qingkui! Okay, time to catch up. They go to a restaurant.
I’m fine and Chaofeng is a good guy, says Qingkui.
I don’t believe it, says Yetan. Yes, I agree. No good guy is able to maintain hair like that 24/7.
Then Yetan lets Qingkui in a bit on her mission too and tries to convince Qingkui to leave the Void Realm and run away.
Qingkui doesn’t want to because that would be irresponsible.
Chaofeng comes looking for Qingkui. Qingkui shoos Yetan away, but Chaofeng and Haichao already suspect that Yetan was here ‘cause the sisters kind of… ordered large portions of food. Too much for one person:
Chaofeng dreads the day Qingkui finds out he is not as kind as she believes, but he still doesn’t plan to give up his ambitions.
