‘The Starry Love’: Ep. 14 Recap — Dingyun Fails (again)

It isn’t the Fire Monster that needs to be taken care of, it’s those greedy jerks in the village.

EPISODE 14

The gang gets closer to the stone hut to learn a bit more about the Fire Demon. The Fire Demon himself gives us a little flashback which explains how he came to be.

He was born out of a fire that shot down from heaven and landed here. A human boy befriended him and the villagers kind of tolerated him. But one day, there was a fire accident. The boy got burnt and died and everyone blamed it on him because, well, he is basically a walking flame.

He had to retreat to the mountain, but he promised the boy to protect the village. Not that these people let him, though.

Anyway, that’s his sob story. The point is, the Fire Demon is not evil. Yetan doesn’t know his history, but she can sense that this man doesn’t mean to do anyone harm. He just wants friends. Poor Yetan is prepared to deal with the worst of devils but they keep throwing friendly teddy bears at her.

After a few failed attempts, Yetan finally gets the Fire Demon to talk to her and drink with her. She gives him a name too: Lamu — something to do with fire and being hot, which is fitting, I guess.

One important thing to remember is: he doesn’t want her to touch him. Just like the old Youqin. This time, it’s probably because he doesn’t want to accidentally burn her, but still, “no touching her boyfriend” seems to be the chorus of Yetan’s life.

When Yetan and the Fire Demon hang out that day, however, a group of villagers ambush them and attempt to kill Lamu. Those jerks.

Yetan makes them leave Lamu alone; in exchange, she promises to pay them back for all the losses Lamu has caused their businesses.

How is she going to get the money? Oh, she’s going to rob her human father. He’s a king, he’s rich, and he treated her like crap; so there’s no reason not to break into his treasury and steal what she needs.

During her trip, Yetan discovers that her father keeps a wooden chess set that she hand-made when she was a child in one of his cabinets.

Although, the thing is, due to a conflict back then, the girls had to tell everyone that it was Qingkui who made the set. So the king treasuring something Qingkui made is not exactly news. Hmm, clues, clues for us viewers…

When Yetan brings back the gold and silver, the village’s head says they will be needing a lot more. Are you kidding? That is cash straight from a king’s treasure room, it should be enough for five generations of this small village.

Yetan should tell him that, not go back and put herself at risk to get more money!

In the Void Realm, Dingyun and his mother the Void Queen find out about Qingkui’s little healing business so they have her and Chaofeng arrested.

But worry not, the entire Void Court back Qingkui since most people there have benefitted from her healing skills. The Void King agrees to abolish the weird “no healing” rule and lets Qingkui continue with her work. Huh, he’s actually fair.

Also, I will take this opportunity to point out that Dingyun and his mom are the least interesting people in this drama. Not only are they unlikable, completely lacking a sense of humor, they also suck at being villains.

Wudai visits Qingkui afterwards, gives her some animal furs as gifts, and then explodes in her face that he likes her.

Jaws drop, limbs freeze, eyes shoot open, eardrums burst. Everyone is scared to death by this confession.
