EPISODE 10
Thunderstorms. Suspicious celestial activities. Dark smoke rushing into all realms. What is it? An ancient evil force is out making trouble again. It breaks into Youqin’s meditation center too.
Yetan and Youqin fight the black smoke. Well, technically Yetan doesn’t fight, but she alerts Youqin so he can fight.
Per Youqin’s explanation, the black smoke that managed to get inside this dome came into existence because of his mortal obsessions. So this evil force we’re looking at is basically the evil in all men — that kind of thing (?).
Anyway, when the black smoke takes a break, Youqin explains to Yetan a little more.
Every time this dark force breaks out, someone will have to sacrifice himself to contain it. But Not just any random person, someone with a special power for the job. And last time, it was Youqin’s teacher.
Youqin was still a child then and he had to watch his teacher die. Knowing that he would be next, child-Youqin was terrified.
Afterwards, child-Youqin began to shut down all of his feelings so he wouldn’t have to experience fear. To him, that was the only way he could focus on this mission. Sounds like another case of Dongfang Qingcang from Love Between Fairy & Devil, which I’m not really a fan of.
Good thing Yetan has the common sense of a human girl who has been through ups and downs. She puts a stop to this nonsense right away.
Fear is not a sin! What is the point of courage without fear? She says. Dealing with emotions helps you grow up, fool.
And Youqin is like, huh… that makes sense, wonder why no one ever told me that before?
Youqin makes peace with his child-self and embraces his fears, ready to face the evil force, but not before he turns Yetan into a nut again.
This time, it isn’t because she annoys him, but because he wants to tell her something he would never say to her when she is full-sized. Which is: You’re… uh… not as annoying as I thought you would be.
And then he leaves.
But the Heaven is not the only place preparing for this battle. The Void Kingdom wants a piece of the glory two. The three princes prepare to charge out. The one that brings their father honor gets the throne and gets to marry Qingkui.
Chaofeng is afraid Qingkui may get bullied while he’s gone – which is very possible with his crazy parents around – so he has her move.
Chaofeng makes it look like Qingkui is arrested and taken to a prison, but he and his assistant actually already arranged for her to be well-treated. The jailers over there are more than willing to make fools of themselves to entertain Qingkui.
The prison cell is also well-furnished with lots of items for Qingkui’s entertainment. Like this one zither that, when you pluck it, Harry’s Patronus springs out and dances.
However, Chaofeng isn’t ready to leave yet. Just like Youqin, he has something to say to his crush. But unlike Youqin, he has the guts to say it to Qingkui’s face.
Although, on second thought, he’s definitely still scheming.
Chaofeng runs over to Qingkui and confesses that when he switched the two princesses’ places, falling in love with one of them wasn’t part of his plan.
Qingkui begins with her response, but the moment she starts hinting at “gratitude”, he cuts it short with a kiss. I guess that since Chaofeng thinks he might die on the battlefield, he is willing to risk getting slapped for something more than “gratitude”.
No slap, though. Qingkui likes it. Which will only make her heartbreak worse when she finds out the truth!
