‘Princess Pearl’: Ep. 22 Recap — Terrible Timing

EPISODE 22 RECAP

When the Boy Trio visit the girls that day, Xiaoyanzi is livid. She has heard from Lady Ling that Yongqi has been picked to be Princess Saiya’s husband. That’s not what Lady Ling said, by the way, it’s just what Xiaoyanzi thinks she heard.

But everything fits, why else would the emperor order the Boy Trio to accompany Saiya these days? It’s so she can choose one of them. Marriage alliances are important.

Yongqi wants to go to the emperor to explain everything, but Xiaoyanzi is a little hesitant. She doesn’t want to die, of course. Maybe Yongqi needs to do more than just letting her share his horse to convince her that their romance is worth getting beheaded for.

But it turns out that Saiya doesn’t want Yongqi at all. She wants Er’kang.

The Tibetan King wastes no time in putting the matter forth with the emperor. As a diplomatic act, the emperor agrees and then congratulates Lord Fu later, who — needless to say — is not so happy about the news. Think of all the tantrums Er’kang will throw at him.

Yongqi brings the news to the gang. Now, if losing Yongqi was not enough to make Xiaoyanzi want to tell the truth right away, Ziwei losing Er’kang definitely is. Xiaoyanzi can’t stand how Ziwei always gets the short end of the stick anymore. She storms away to see the emperor and the whole group follows. Prepare for some serious drama.

Now, the emperor and the Tibetan King are currently taking a walk around the garden with many other important people. Xiaoyanzi barges in and says Saiya can’t have Er’kang.

Saiya takes this to mean that Xiaoyanzi wants Er’kang so she challenges Xiaoyanzi to a fight.

And even though everyone around acts like this is improper, I’m sure they’re all enjoying the chaos. The Tibetan King, however, is pretty honest about it. He cheers them on. He likes girls to be strong and fight for their men. Then maybe don’t let your daughter marry a man who was raised in this culture?

Xiaoyanzi loses to Saiya, obviously. But she doesn’t back away this time, she cries and spills the beans: Ziwei is the real princess!

The emperor is petrified. The empress is like, is everyone Xia Yuhe’s daughter now? And the look she gives Lady Ling here is pure excitement, this woman just loves some good drama:

They take the scandal inside. The kids explain. The empress tries everything she can to put them down, saying that this is all a plot by the Fu family to gain power. To be honest, though, it does look like that from an outsider’s perspective.

In the end, the emperor orders the three girls to be locked up. Er’kang probably would have been locked up too if he hadn’t been chosen to marry Saiya.

Xiaoyanzi cries and cries and begs the emperor to spare Ziwei.

Ziwei, however, reminds the emperor of his promise when she was stabbed. He told her he would pardon Xiaoyanzi no matter her offences.

Jinsuo jumps in and asks to die for the other two. OK, that’s a little too much, the emperor doesn’t even know who you are, Jinsuo. You’re just making things worse for them.

The three girls get dragged away. The Fu family holds an emergency meeting.

ERKANG: How could he (emperor)? It was only a small mistake.

LORD FU: Maybe. But your timing sucked.
