‘Love Between Fairy & Devil’: Ep. 29 Recap – Xunfeng’s Got a Point

Quippe: The brothers are mad at each other. One of them strategizes for the impending war, and it isn’t Devy. Their fight is the best thing in this episode.

Dew: This cave gives me the creeps and I want out out out! The faster we jump in the faster Orchid can leave right?

*Devy = Devil = Dongfang Qingcang

EPISODE 29 RECAP

Orchid gives Devy a bit of the potion, but he secretly spits it out.

I thought his not swallowing the liquid was a Director’s decision but nope! It’s a plot point!

When she enters the torturing cave, he still feels everything. He wants to share whatever pain she has to endure now that they are about to be husband and wife.

That is so sweet and stupid at the same time. *cries in vulnerable nation*

Well, let’s hope no one attacks the Moon Realm in the meantime.

The challenge is a lot for Orchid of course, but she stands her ground despite Xunfeng yelling for her to give up.

Inside the hollow statue she’s been put in, Orchid recalls her happy memories with Devy and, erm… somehow this helps her endureOrchidl?

Everyone: Tell us if you’re dying!

Orchid: *– and when we kissed that one time, and that other time when you appeared with electric guitar music and saved me and –*

Seriously speaking though, I believe it’s her Goddess power that’s helping her.

When the challenge is finally complete, Orchid falls unconscious, but she lives.

The Moon People now have no reason to oppose her because she has passed a test that… doesn’t actually say anything about where her loyalty lies. Because as far as everyone knows, Orchid is an ordinary plant. Shouldn’t the fact that she is able to complete a challenge no one had ever come out alive from raise some suspicions? Or maybe the Moon People just wanted an excuse to push someone into that cave since they hadn’t had any sport fun for a long time?

At the Heaven Palace, Changheng is ready to accept his punishment. The Heaven Lord doesn’t want to execute him anymore, but he wants to disown him. Sounds good to me. Take that deal, Changheng. But Dayin runs in just in time and reveals the truth about Orchid: She is the Goddess Xishan that Changheng is supposed to marry.

The Heaven Lord is thrilled to hear this, he declares that Changheng is clear of all charges, which doesn’t make a lot of sense — didn’t Changheng still try to elope with Orchid when she wasn’t the Goddess? So he still knowingly committed a crime. Anyway, I don’t think the Heaven Lord is supposed to make sense.

From prison, Ronghao sends a written confession, with it he includes a little report that says Devy was responsible for the Heaven’s lost soldiers.

Here’s the deal: the Heaven Lord is looking for a reason to wage war on the Moon Tribe, so he conspired with Ronghao to put on this act so that he can have an official reason to attack Devy.

And because not one guy standing at the Heaven Court at the time bothers to question this random report, they all agree to initiate this war for revenge.

Changheng freaks out and goes to talk to Ronghao, but the latter is just like, have some tea and biscuit and calm down.

As Captain Jack would say, we need rum

Ronghao told Changheng about Heaven Lord’s true intentions and drops a crucial detail: Devy cannot control Hellfire anymore.

Changheng asks Ronghao if there’s anything else he’s still hiding. In true soulmate fashion, Ronghao answers, “I can lie to the whole world, but I will never lie to you.”. Which translates to, yes, I have secrets so stop asking me so I don’t have to lie. *sips tea*

We get a little update on Shangque and Jieli and a great reminder that age does not equal wisdom in love as SQ gives Jieli the key to his entire life savings. His ENTIRE LIFE SAVINGS. This is more than one dragon scale, SQ!

Dayin’s father is suddenly important in this episode. He has also been in contact with Ronghao’s assistant, it has to do with his missing daughter. Seems like Dayin has a sister somewhere.

Back to Orchid, due to the dark magic Jieli was forced to put in her bracelet, she is briefly possessed and nearly harms Devy and Xunfeng. But they quickly get the situation under control.

The quick solution would be to take off that bracelet, but according to Devy, they can’t do that anymore. The bracelet contains his blood. When he first gave it to her, it was only for her protection. But because she has grown to love him, the bracelet has become a part of her. Removing it would physically hurt her. Another thing to add to the long list of why Orchid and Devy are destined to be, just to make sure no one can even think of getting off this ship.

Devy shares with Xunfeng that he also detected the essence of Lady Chidi on the bracelet, feeding on Orchid’s energy. So if they DON’T remove the bracelet, she will also die. And if she dies, Devy dies. You know what? We’ve been at this for too long already that I’m kind of rooting for one of them to die. Just to see what happens.

I second this. We need more at stake than just hypotheticals and poisoned lips.

Xunfeng takes this opportunity to reveal that he has successfully reforged Chengying Sword. Well, at least somebody has been productive. He thinks Orchid would be willing to sacrifice herself using that sword to save Devy. That way, they can obtain Lady Chidi’s power and bring back the lost soldiers too, because — guess what? — war is upon them and they are outnumbered.

Xunfeng says he would be willing to die for Devy and the Moon Clan anytime, and that he has no doubt Orchid would do the same because she is the friggin’ Moon Queen now, she should be ready to play that role to its full meaning. He’s cold, but he’s got a point.

Unsurprisingly, Devy rages. He tells Xunfeng there’s no way he would sacrifice Orchid. Xunfeng calls him useless. Shangque yells at Xunfeng. No no, Shangque, you stay out of this. Devy needs to be contradicted, not supported.

When Xunfeng leaves, Devy finally realizes that they are all toast. He can’t win this war without Hellfire. This is tragic because after thousands and thousands of years of being a fighter, he’s finally… erm… got caught in a fair fight?

The Moon advisors have no idea, though. They still believe Devy is unbeatable and urge him to go all out. During a meeting, Xunfeng suggests they give up some territories to preserve their troops, but nope, the advisors want a full-blown battle for revenge. With electric guitar playing in the background and all.

Someone go raid Ronghao’s rum stash because Devy’s going to need them tonight.
