‘Love Between Fairy & Devil’: Ep. 23 Recap – Let’s Turn Changheng Off

*Devy = Devil = Dongfang Qingcang

Back at their mortal estate, Devy blames Jieli for the failure of their recent mission since she’s the one who came up with the plan. Dude, it was your and Orchid’s fault. Jieli is smart, but she doesn’t do miracles. Also, it looks like her plan gave you two a moment in a wardrobe together back at the restaurant. So… call it even?

Needless to say, they need another plan. After some intense discussion, they come up with this: having Orchid behave badly and wear hideous makeup in front of Changheng so he will give up his dream about the maiden in the painting.

Devy personally gets involved in the preparation process, showing us a vivid example of what would happen if you let your jealous boyfriend do your makeup.

So Orchid goes out to meet Changheng like that. The poor guy is shocked at first, but he keeps his thoughts to himself and tries to be respectful to her to see what’s going on.

Devy, who watches from afar, concludes that there’s no way Orchid can make Changheng hate her with her poor acting skill; given how nice Changheng himself behaves, it’s hard for Orchid to hurt him. So he swoops in and shows us what real acting looks like. He calls Orchid his wife, apologizes to Changheng for not telling him sooner, and takes Orchid away.

Changheng is heartbroken. But the next day, he once again successfully — albeit knowingly — ruins Devy’s smooth plan. Changheng announces that this heartbreak is too much for him to bear, so he will enlist himself and leave this city to be away from Orchid.

During the farewell session, Orchid frantically tries to think of something to hold Changheng off. He needs to stay and fall in love with Wanqing or he will fail the trial.

Orchid signals for Jieli to think of something, which she does. Jieli claims that Orchid and Devy are — get ready for it — siblings! And that they’ve only been putting on an act to test Changheng.

So there’s no stopping Changheng and Orchid’s wedding now that Changheng has proven to be a kind and respectful sort of man.

When they get home, Jieli explains that they can have two weddings on the same day, one for Devy-Wanqing and one for Changheng-Orchid. When the time comes, they will arrange for Orchid and Wanqing to trade places. It’s not the best plan ever, but given that the powerful Moon Lord hasn’t come up with any good plans himself all along, we’d say just listen to Jieli.

Devy protests, though. He says he won’t go into a wedding night with a fake bride, even for the plan. Marriage is an important matter, he says. But you did pretend to be married to Orchid earlier without asking her first, so why are you reluctant now? Would you think of the bigger picture, please? Stop giving me reasons to root for your more goal-oriented brother.
