‘Love Between Fairy & Devil’: Ep. 21 Recap – Hanging out with Changheng

*Devy = Devil = Dongfang Qingcang

Orchid runs off on her own during their date at the tea house, making Devy, Jieli and Shangque go look for her.

Back to Wanqing, she’s still trying to figure out who is playing the flute. Yes, who indeed?

In a moment of desperation, Wanqing pours some poison into her drink and attempts to take her own life. But Devy is right outside at the time. He doesn’t want to draw her attention but has no choice. He zooms over and snatches the cup from her hand, saving her life. This is a big problem, you see, Changheng is supposed to be the one who saves Wanqing so romance could blossom between them.

Changheng, on the other hand, has gotten into some trouble with street bullies. Orchid finds him. She tries to brings him to Wanqing, but it’s too late. Instead, Changheng is so moved by how Orchid saved him from the bullies that he is now smitten with her instead.

Orchid runs before anything else could be said. She meets Devy again. He seems annoyed by the fact that she knew Changheng was here yet didn’t tell him. Orchid points out that Devy isn’t so innocent, either. He has made Wanqing like him by being her savior tonight. But they both soon come to term with something more serious than either of their feelings. Changheng and Wanqing might fail their trials, and failing means turning to ash, losing your immortal spirit forever.

Devy comes up with a solution – he will risk using magic and erase Changheng’s memory of Orchid. Sounds good, he has energy to spare. So he goes ahead and knocks Changheng out and removes the recent encounter with Orchid from his mind. What he doesn’t expect is that Changheng has painted Orchid’s face on paper. It’s a nice-looking painting too.

So, the next morning, Changheng wakes up feeling a little off. Like there’s some unfinished business waiting for him, someone he needs to find. He goes to his desk in confusion and BOOM, there’s the painting.

Now he knows what he’s supposed to do — find this woman he so frequently dreams about. Didn’t see this coming, did you, Devy?

This mix-and-match situation makes so much sense that I hope drama writers are taking notes right now.

Orchid and the gang, on the other hand, plan to get Changheng and Wanqing together. They decide that Orchid will try to befriend Wanqing while Devy enters Changheng’s school to get to know him.

Reluctantly, Devy hangs out with Changheng — a goofy student who loves to ditch school and everything. Orchid reminds Devy beforehand that he needs to smile more if he’s going to be someone’s friend. But not to worry, Changheng smiles and jokes around enough for the both of them. Never in a million years did Devy think he would have to crawl through a pet door with Changheng or find the latter’s hand on his shoulder one day. That’s going to be awkward when they return to the immortal realm.
