Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms: Whose Names Are on the Stone (三生石)?

Besides Bai Fengjiu and he-whose-name-is-not-Donghua, viewers of the show have found many other names of characters in the show as well as famous historical and fictional figures on Sansheng Stone (三生石). Here’s what we have so far:

Xue Pinggui (薛平贵) and Wang Baochuan (王宝钏)

Ye Hua (夜华) and  Bai Qian (白浅)

Lu You (陆游) and Tang Wan (唐婉)

Lin Xin (林欣) and Zhang Chuanshan (张船山)

Han Shizhong (韩世忠) and Liang Hongyu (梁红玉): Both were exceptional warriors during and served under Yue Fei. Outcome: Liang Hongyu died during battle. Han Shizhong retired from service.

Fan Li (范蠡) and Xishi (西施): Xishi lived during the Spring and Autumn period, she was consider one of the Four Great Beauties of ancient China. Fan Li was an adviser for the King of Yue. Outcome: unknown.

Jia Baoyu (贾宝玉) and Lin Daiyu (林黛玉): Main characters in Dream of the Red Chambers.

Chen Yun (陈芸) and Shen Fu  (沈复) (error in picture’s notation – the name’s supposed to be Chen Yun, NOT Lu You)

Liang Shanpo (梁山泊) and Zhu Yingtai (祝英台): Two main characters in Chinese popular folk tale and opera Butterfly Lovers. Outcome: both die and turn into butterflies.

Hou Yi (后羿) and Chang’e (嫦娥): The Goddess of the moon and the skilled archer who shot down the Nine Suns. Outcome: lifelong separation.

Cheng Yu (成玉) and Lian Song (连宋): These two can pretend they hate each other all they want but they’ll end up together according to this.

Sima Xiangru (司马相如) and Zhuo Wenjun (卓文君): Sima Xiangru was a poet during the Western Han Dynasty. Zhuo Wenjun was a well read, well brought up lady who admired his poetry. Outcome: happily ever after.

Xiang Yu (项羽) and Yuji (虞姬): Xiang Yu was a war lord during the late Qin Dynasty. Yuji was his favourite consort. Outcome: Both committed suicide when Xiang Yu lost the last battle at Wu River to Liu Bang.

Wu Sangui (吴三桂) and Chen Yuanyuan (陈圆圆)

Lu Bu (吕布) and Diao Chan (貂蝉): Three Kingdoms. Outcome: (as written in Romance of the Three Kingdoms) both lost their lives when Cao Cao conquered Xiapi.

Wan Xiliang (万喜良) and Mengjiangnǚ (孟姜女): Wan Xiliang was one of the laborers during the construction of the Great Wall and Mengjiangnu, his wife. Outcome: Wan Xiliang died from exhaustion during work. Legend has it that Mengjiangnǚ took her own life after his funeral.

  3. It strange that most of these couples end up dying by suicide and such.. seems like having your name on the stone does not ensure a spot on the Happily ever after ride.
