Eternal Love of Dream – Unhelpful Recap (Episode 20)

The palace is in emotional chaos now that their trustworthy General Ye and the woman who was about to become their queen consort have eloped together.
Outside the city, Fengjiu and Qingti – having chosen the most inconvenient and conspicuous outfits for themselves – are on their way to a faraway town.

All of this is just an act on Fengjiu’s part, of course.

But just when he makes an attempt to hold her… erm… wrist, they are caught up with by the imperial soldiers. Doesn’t seem like Fengjiu reciprocates General Ye’s feelings, though.

Fengjiu gives up right away and agrees to go back with them. What? All that planning and all you’re giving us is wrist-holding?

When Fengjiu is brought back to the palace, Donghua is not pleased. Naturally. He asks Fengjiu for an explanation, and she comes up with the most unconvincing story ever: that she was after wealth and status all along and has never cared about him.

Donghua responds that he’s confused. Good, cause if you believe that lie, Donghua, I recommend resigning from your post.

Fengjiu is completely crushed, which I can’t say I can sympathize with. Girl, the sooner he hates you here, the sooner you will get the real him back in the immortal realm. He’s so un-Donghua-like in this arc that it feels like you’re hitting on a completely different guy.

But she’s so sad that she coughs up blood and passes out.

Now, the matter of Fengjiu and General Ye is discussed in the court. Most of the officials want to either execute or severely punish the general. Hold your horses, people. General Ye is the only person among you who has shown some mental capacity in this entire arc. Are you sure you want to execute the guy who is ensuring the survival of your kingdom?

Donghua visits General Ye in prison. The general is honest about liking Fengjiu, he also says he’s not sure whether she likes him back. OK, why is this storyline so reluctant to hurt Donghua’s feelings? How are we going to get him crushed and to die beautifully with all this half-hearted angst??

Something more serious is going on besides this love triangle, though. Without General Ye’s lead, the imperial guards can’t protect the palace from the Prince of Ying’s sudden attack. Yeah, see? I told you General Ye is the reason you all are alive.

From her deluxe suite in prison (seriously, look at the room they put her in), Fengjiu asks to see Donghua.

She begs him to release General Ye so he can defend the palace. She also warns him that this attack is a diversion and that there might be a plot going on to steal the green stone. No kidding. And apparently, Fengjiu is the only one who considers this possibility.

So while General Ye heads out with his men to meet the enemy, Fengjiu and Donghua rush to the imperial tomb to secure the stone. It’s weird that they have more chemistry when they’re just working together.

COMMENTS

Although the plot doesn’t present a convincing conflict, we do get a nice performance of disappointment from Vengo Gao during the brief confrontation. Dilmurat also delivers Fengjiu’s struggle well.
