Eternal Love of Dream – Unhelpful Recap (Episode 19)

In his palace, the mortal Donghua sulks in doubts and misery, refusing to see both Fengjiu and General Ye, even when the latter wants to discuss state affairs. The Empress Dowager comes to see her son, tells him to sober up and does his job. For the first time since the appearance of this dowager, I have to agree: listen to your mom*, Donghua.

She also advices him to take a queen consort to help him manage the harem. It doesn’t take Donghua long to decide that Fengjiu is the one. Most court officials are against this decision, saying that her identity is unclear. Not that I want more episodes on this mortal arc, but these guys have a point.

Amidst the opposition, General Ye’s response is, “Sure, why not?” along with an expression you would likely see at a funeral.

The Empress Dowager is among the many who think Donghua is going crazy, but when Donghua explains that Fengjiu is the only one who can make the green stone glow by touch beside himself, she has no choice but to agree to this. Of course, we all know that’s only like 1/100 of the reason why he wants Fengjiu to be his queen consort.

General Ye and Fengjiu meet up for a little talk after the announcement, they’re both like: “uhm… what just happened?”. He then gives her a long letter, romantically betraying his sovereign. The letter explains in full how he feels and states that his offer still stands if she’s ever not happy.

And the guy is so smitten that he forgets to tell Fengjiu to burn that letter after reading it. Because COME ON, General Ye, the amount of sugar in your love letter is enough to, first, get its recipient in huge trouble, and second, make even Yehua’s jaw drop, and Yehua is the inventor of sugar in this universe.

However, Fengjiu does try to burn it. The kind-hearted girl doesn’t want to drag General Ye too deep into their plan. She also attempts to burn all the letters they write to each other afterwards. Yeah, there’s more than one. Enough to fill a whole box, in fact. But Si Ming decides they should keep those for Donghua to find because it would make the blow even more fatal. Donghua needs to pass this trial and get his power back because the world needs his protection (or his cooking, I don’t know), so sacrificing a mortal General Ye is a small price to pay. You’ve gotta love that the-end-justifies-the-means attitude Si Ming has.

The next day, Fengjiu tries on her new queen consort dress. Donghua comments that she looks beautiful. Dude, find me an outfit in which she’s NOT beautiful.

The day Fengjiu has to officially be presented to the Empress Dowager as the new queen consort comes, but Fengjiu’s maid cannot find her anywhere. The head eunuch runs to Donghua with the news. The Empress Dowager yells at him to go find General Ye, who should know what to do, but the other half of the shocking news is “Yeah… that’s the problem, General Ye is missing too.”

In the background, the Prince of Ying’s expression seems to say: “Looks like they have better drama than my place does.”

*She’s not his biological mother, but it doesn’t really matter.
