Dream of Splendour – Unhelpful Recap (Ep.13)

The music division guy follows Yinzhang to the gates when they are done with work and offers to take her home. It’s raining, you see.

But Yinzhang refuses and quickly gets on her carriage. That’s not the end of it, though. He rides alongside her carriage and assures her that he means well. It looks a little weird to him that Yinzhang doesn’t only avoid him, but seems to be scared of him.

He doesn’t know, of course, that Yinzhang isn’t just scared of him. The poor girl is scared of all men because of her experience with her former husband.

That day, the teahouse doesn’t do well. No more than four people go in. Two of them just want quick brews and no one cares for the elegance of the shop. The girls sit down for a discussion because it looks like they have gone wrong somewhere.

First, why did Yinzhang claim sick and then go out for the whole day? Yinzhang tells the truth. After some mild protest from Pan’er, rooted in concern, the girls decide Yinzhang did the right thing.

Second, what is going on with the teahouse? It’s only been two days.

Should they maintain their current expensive and elegant menu or should they go with the market and start serving cheap tea?

It’s sad to see their business not taking flight as they had hoped. But Pan’er’s spirit isn’t easily dampened. She quickly goes out to visit the other teahouse and takes notes.

Qianfan is dealing with his own problems. We get another glimpse into his job, and my god it’s not appealing. Having to talk to criminals, think like them, torture them, and getting spit on by them on a daily basis. At times, all the bad memories of his family opposing his job come back and jab at him.

As someone who has to establish a reputation of being ruthless for himself, Qianfan also makes a lot of unnecessary enemies. And it looks like he makes one today when he forces a guy to do some servant chores around.

Qianfan and Pan’er meet at her teashop on the same day. They talk, commiserate with and encourage each other. In the end, somebody is smitten and smiling like a schoolboy.

What have you done to this man, Pan’er? His nickname is the “LIVING DEVIL”. Does that look like any devil to you??

Yinzhang comes in with her greetings.

What brings you here, Commander Gu? She asks.

And because Commander Gu’s head isn’t exactly on duty right now, he responds, I’m here because of you, Yinzhang.

Then he goes on to provide Yinzhang with some info about the man who followed her earlier, saying that this man indeed means no harm.

Yinzhang concludes that Qianfan has been protecting her (and the other two girls) in silence all this time, which he has. But the point is Yinzhang’s little crush on him just grew a little larger. Uh… Well done, Commander Gu.

You know, at one point, you need to be prepared to tell people what you’re really doing at Pan’er’s teahouse. You can’t just ask Pan’er to make tea for you every time, then get up and dash the second someone catches you making moon eyes at her.

In this episode. Chen Lian expresses his disappointment because Qianfan doesn’t let him have on-the-field experience. He’s been shadowing Qianfan, but now he wants to see more: blood, gore, torture. Kids these days. But Qianfan has his reason. Chen Lian is too young so Qianfan doesn’t want him to have that kind of experience yet. Awww.

During their talk, Chen Lian also says that Pan’er is like a sister to him. And as a brother, he would looove for his sister to marry someone like Qianfan.
