Dream of Splendour – Unhelpful Recap (Ep.11)

Pan’er and the girls sit down to have their first peaceful meal after the traumatizing Ouyang incident. At this time, they all realize something: the food here kind of sucks.

Yinzhang comes up with an idea then: the three of them should open a restaurant in the city. With their individual skills, they might have an actual chance to run a business.

Pan’er is a little skeptical because she has learnt her lesson with people in the city. Running a restaurant is not child’s play, one false move and they might end up being paraded on the street with rotten eggs on their faces.

Also, Pan’er is busy executing another plan. She goes out to meet Ouyang that night with Chen Lian.

The nosy/sinister caretaker De is there, but before he can do anything, Chen Lian gags and drags him away so Pan’er can have a conversation with Ouyang. Ouyang is surprisingly calm as De is getting assaulted. Who knows, he must be happy that Chen Lian has managed to shut De up for him.

Alone with him, Pan’er tells Ouyang he had better return that painting she wants. It has to do with a case that some big bosses in the city are investigating, and it is not Ouyang’s to keep.

Ouyang agrees to try his best. Afterward, De gets checked out by a doctor, and the result? His injuries are deep and he needs a year or two of rest before he can go back to normal.

Well, who knows goofy Chen Lian can be so lethal when he wants to be? He gave De internal injuries that were almost impossible for the doctor to draw any conclusions from. If a lackey can be this dangerous, just imagine what his boss Qianfan can do. *evil laugh*

That night, Ouyang also finds a bloodstained knife under his mattress. Oh no, who is that from? Who else have you offended, Ouyang?

The next day, Ouyang is summoned to the palace to greet the emperor with the other newly selected scholars. He shows off some Taoist knowledge to the emperor and gets sent on a mission in a faraway location. Here’s the thing, though: this job and position are not exactly impressive among the court. They actually make people look down on you.

So, the Gao family isn’t too happy with Ouyang. Daddy Gao decides to call off the wedding between Ouyang and his daughter and even threatens Ouyang with a sword. For an old scholar, this guy is freakishly strong and quick.

The daughter Gao Hui, however, is determined to marry Ouyang. You might be wondering where on earth this guy’s charm lies. Why do girls flock to him? Well, he’s manipulative and knows how to play on their emotions, that’s why.

When Nanny Gao makes Gao Hui walk away from Ouyang, she gets emotional and is, of course, vulnerable. Ouyang takes this opportunity to say “I won’t let you down” to her. A move to make sure he has Gao Hui’s absolute loyalty, so that when he needs something from Daddy Gao, she can be his key and his shield!

We can see it from the way he wipes off his fake tear after Gao Hui has left.

At their place, Pan’er, Chen Lian and the girls are having a good time making fun of Ouyang’s new title. It’s Gong-guan-guan. If they say it fast enough, it sounds like he’s a eunuch. No wonder the Gao family doesn’t want anything to do with him.
