EPISODE 37
Until the next morning, they still haven’t found Ziwei. Erkang is so mad he takes a ride out and yells Ziwei’s name. Yongzi follows to give him a pep-talk.
When they come back home, good news awaits! Turns out, the bearded dude knows another dude who definitely knows where Ziwei has been taken.
They find the brothel and Ziwei is pretty miserable when they arrive. She has been beaten, thrown around, and even almost violated. She is so terrified that she doesn’t even recognize Erkang’s voice, so he has to recite a few verses from their love song to calm her down, to which the other people are like… huh.
Anyway, Erkang beats up the men who were abusing Ziwei and they bring her back home.
Erkang doesn’t let Xiaoyanzi touch Ziwei. Yongqi is like: don’t be such a grump.
And Erkang is like: get away from my angelic girlfriend, you gross peasants.
Xiaojian does the only thing he can do in these crazy situations: play a flute song. It’s really… not a good melody compared to what I’ve heard in Chinese dramas so far, but we’ll just play along and say it’s the most magical sound ever because our characters certainly act like it is.
In their room, Erkang begins his apology speech. About how he has been wanting to kill himself and everything, you know how it is. To be honest, though, I don’t think he is too over-the-top this time because what Ziwei has been through is insane.
Ziwei, however, is still in shock, so she says nothing in response. After a while, I guess when Erkang is probably starting to wonder whether he should just stop talking and get out of there, Ziwei asks for some water.
That’s all Erkang has been waiting for. He shoots up from his seat and bolts to the table to get that water cup like it’s the most important and dangerous mission he’s ever had to do.
This earns him a hug and forgiveness from Ziwei so I guess it WAS one of the most important things he’s ever had to do.
Xiaoyanzi is forgiven too. You know how it is, whatever Ziwei says is Erkang’s command. And Ziwei says we forgive Xiaoyanzi.
But you know what, this whole accident makes me think I’m going to doubt Xiaoyanzi’s capabilities for the rest of the show. I forgive her. Just not sure I can trust her again.
The next day, Ziwei tells them all she is missing her zither, so the gang sets out to handmake her one. Per Xiaojian’s suggestion, Horse’s hair is great for making zither strings so Xiaoyanzi tries to PLUCK some from a horse’s tail and unsurprisingly gets kicked in the stomach. Yep, I’m telling you, somewhere in this drama, something has gone wrong with this girl. She’s gone from lovably mischievous to dangerously clueless.
Xiaojian comes out just in time to save her from the horse and he points out the obvious: just take a pair of scissors and cut off some hair.
Xiaoyanzi is awed by Xiaojian’s… survival knowledge that anyone with common sense should have. She is like, OMG how are you so awesome and cool and… nope, Yongqi is not happy.
Liu Hong arrives that day and tells them the good news about Jinsuo. Erkang takes the chance to lament out loud that everyone is well-treated by heaven except Ziwei.
