Dream of Splendour – Unhelpful Recap (Ep. 9)

Ouyang starts berating his servant De. This guy has taken liberty with a lot of things and keeps bringing Ouyang more trouble than he bargains for. Like they say, a nosy servant can be the death of you faster than an evil one. I think…

Meanwhile, the leader of the rich-boys gang — Chi Pan, titled Chi Ya-nei — finds out that his own gang is working for Pan’er, chanting in front of Ouyang’s house and all. He seeks out Pan’er for “revenge” but ends up getting slapped and splashed water on by Pan’er and the girls. It was his fault to begin with since he attempted to bully Yinzhang. Not knowing what’s good for him, Chi Pan demands a competition to regain his honor. Both sides agree to three tasks: poetry, knife skills, and dice casting.

Chi Pan is able to match Yinzhang in poetry, but he completely sucks in the next two rounds. Obviously. Because yelling and stabbing down at someone’s hand and hoping for no injuries is not exactly championship material. Not when compared to San-niang’s tofu masterpiece.

With a little trick, Pan’er wins with the dice. But I’ve got to say that Chi Pan is the one who brings that dice scene to life.

Like… he’s really giving it all he’s got.

After losing, Chi Pan fulfills the term he agrees to, which is to let his minions continue to work for Pan’er as long as she needs them. He also screams at their faces “good luck”.

By himself, Gu Qianfan wonders how Pan’er is doing, he even visits her old teahouse where they first met and first insulted each other. Pan’er is also checking to see if he is back in the city. Oooh… some long-distance yearning after nine episodes.
