EPISODE 3 RECAP
Now that the two sisters have gotten through the gates, the next hard thing they have to do is meet their future husbands’ families.
It is horrible for Qingkui. First of all, she can’t wear perfume because everyone in this kingdom is allergic to pretty scents. They don’t like man-made fragrances.
Then, the Void king and queen mock her upbringing. Then, the princes make her drink their stuff. It looks like blood. It must taste like blood too because Qingkui takes one sip and gags. Maybe I was right to call this the “demon kingdom” after all. Where are the good people at??
Prince Chaofeng steps out to help Qingkui a bit. But because he is an unfavored prince, he can’t say what he wants outright. He pretends to be drunk and knocks away her blood cup. It’s not that he cares about Qingkui, though, he just wants her on his side when it’s time to snatch the throne.
Up in heaven, Yetan is going through the happiest few minutes of her life appreciating how everyone cares about her and spoils her. Compared to her crappy dad, this is truly heaven to her. But she soon finds out that everything has a price.
There is no food here! No regular food, that is. The Heaven people eat pure air to preserve their pure energies (or whatever). And at Yetan’s first meeting with her in-laws, the queen gives her a special gift: a whole bunch of high-quality air. And another gift: air packaged as meat. But it’s still air. Better than blood, though, that’s all I’m saying.
Poor Yetan is soon famished and her pet bird has to steal some fruits for her. They look weird but Yetan wolves them down anyway.
At one point during this celebration, Youqin’s mother comes over to compliment his latest achievements, but as usual, he backs away from her. So now Yetan kind of understands that she’s not the only one who repels Youqin, it’s people in general. She still doesn’t know why, though.
The Heaven King spots Yetan’s weird behavior and tells Youqin to educate her; otherwise, the royal family may become a laughingstock because of this girl who wears garters on her head and can’t appreciate the yumminess of air.
Youqin summons Yetan, and they walk into an empty hall together at twilight. He has a romantic gift for her. Get ready for it. NOTES.
Yep, he wants her to learn his kingdom’s rules and behave better, so he comprised a set of notes for her. Just so you know, Youqin himself has all the rules memorized. That’s how our boy spends his spare time.
Out of nowhere, Yetan jumps at Youqin and starts flirting and kissing him. After a few initial moments of horror, Youqin deduces that Yetan has eaten some forbidden fruits, the kind of fruit immortals eat when they want babies. Yeah, cause high-class Heaven people aren’t supposed to have desires and all, but they still have to reproduce. *eye-roll*
Yetan and Qingkui try to contact one another. You see, because they are twin, if one of them gets hurt, the other will feel it. So the two sisters write on their arms with needles to exchange info about their situations. Yikes. That is gruesome. Note that each of them needs to actually cut into their skin for the letters to appear on the other’s arm.
