EPISODE 48
On one of their trips to visit Xiaojian, Xiaoyanzi resumes her sword practice with her brother while Ziwei and Erkang have a private conversation about whether Xiaojian is really Xiaoyanzi’s brother again.
Ziwei says she has her suspicions, but she doesn’t care whether they’re really siblings or not, as long as they love each other like family. She herself has befriended many random people who ended up being her permanent family, after all.
Erkang is so proud of Ziwei’s generous view that he makes an epic declaration we haven’t heard before: I really like you, Ziwei. Well, this is disappointing, Erkang. I was expecting a serenade with an orchestra.
The emperor comes to visit the two couples that day to discuss their wedding. And let me just say that Erkang and Yongqi are not shy to express their joy. They keep grinning and glancing around like a pair of high-schoolers who just asked out their crushes to the prom.
The girls, on the other hand, don’t seem to be in a rush at all. They’re not pretending or anything, they are very, very chill about this, which is understandable because Ziwei is not in a hurry to leave the father she’s just found and Xiaoyanzi… Yeah, I don’t think she fully understands what marriage entails yet.
Later on, the empress and Nanny Rong come to give Ziwei and Xiaoyanzi wedding gifts — two wedding robes that they embroidered themselves — and ask for forgiveness. The empress, ok, but Nanny Rong? I don’t buy it. You might want to check if there are bee-attracting flower petals inside the robes or something.
Wedding time! Everyone is excited. Everyone is nervous. Lady Ling and Qing’er help Ziwei and Xiaoyanzi get ready, but even they are ultra nervous.
Qing’er runs back and forth and to make sure things are being put in the right places and dresses are being placed on the right people. In one of those hasty trips, she bumps into Xiaojian! Ohhh.
They stare at one another for a long time. Then Qing’er dashes, then she turns around and they stare for a little more.
All right, focus here, people. We have two weddings to run.
The brides get on their sedans and get carried to the grooms’ residences. And I guess the writer just couldn’t help giving Erkang one last heart attack.
He lifts the bridal veil. It’s Xiaoyanzi! Haha, they got the brides mixed up.
Likewise, Yongqi finds his sister in his bedroom. This is so irresponsible, guys, who was in charge of guiding the two brides to the right sedans??
But putting that aside for a second, did anyone notice the way Xiaoyanzi looked when her veil was lifted?
I don’t know what she thought she was going to do to Yongqi but I feel like it wasn’t going to be a quiet wedding night.
Anyway, the girls switch places back. They kiss. Happily ever after. Erkang can finally breathe in relief. For real this time.
Season 3 does not exist, OK?
COMMENTS
Aww, what a satisfying ending to a satisfying ride. I’m tempted to recap Romance in the Rain just to see more of this cast.
