EPISODE 44
The next day, everyone gets together for some chatting. With the problem of the emperor resolved — kind of — they all pour their attention into the problem of Jinsuo.
None of them got the chance to receive Jinsuo’s good news properly and they want to do so now.
As Liu Qing addresses Jinsuo as his wife-to-be, she turns around and says hey who’s your wife, did you even ask me?
They all oooh and ahhh, it’s true that Liu Qing hasn’t officially asked Jinsuo for her hand.
Xiaoyanzi takes this chance to make Liu Qing uncomfortable as much as she can.
Liu Qing isn’t exactly a romantic, but in the end, he manages to ask the official question plus tell his love story in front of everyone.
Ziwei and Erkang arrange a wedding ceremony right away, and this is the end of our journey with Jinsuo. I’m happy for both her and us. *throws confetti*
The day has come for Lord Fu to leave and the kids are still determined not to return to the palace, so the last thing Lord Fu would like them to do is have a family meal with him before they say goodbye.
So they show up in the dining room a later (it could be another day, I’m not sure), and everyone is a little emotional. Ziwei talks about how the emperor is not a regular father, he’s a father who can behead anyone he likes.
But guess what? The doors fling open and in walks the emperor!
Yep, Lord Fu has detained the kids to buy the emperor’s time to get here. Good teamwork!
Next comes lots of tears and apologizing. Ziwei is all like: my mom was too good for you!
And the emperor is like: yeah, true, she was too good for me. You happy now?
When the emperor starts talking about how much they have been missed and starts bringing out all the food and snacks they like, the kids are buried in tears. Erkang tries pretty hard to fight it, but the other three just kind of let it all out, especially Yongqi.
Anyway, a phenomenal performance from Huang Ah-ma. He definitely makes it sound like the palace is a wonderful place to be despite the occasional visits to the prison and death threats. He brings them cakes and biscuits made in the palace’s kitchen!
However, when the emperor tells them to go pack and go home with him, the kids once again decline the offer.
HOWEVER, they are not so sure about their decision anymore. That makes somebody angry, all right.
Xiaojian furiously tells Xiaoyanzi that if she recognizes him as her brother, then she must go with him to Dali, end of conversation.
He is about to spill some beans too but Erkang catches up and takes him away from everyone before he can. I’m surprised Xiaoyanzi doesn’t run after them and beg to hear the story, though.
Erkang solves the biggest mystery of Xiaojian: the enemy that destroyed Xiaojian and Xiaoyanzi’s home back then is the emperor!
Erkang also manages to convince Xiaojian to bury this secret with him because what good would it do now to reveal this information? The only thing it would do is ruin Xiaoyanzi’s chance at happiness. Yeah, listen to the man, Xiaojian, you’re not even sure Xiaoyanzi is your sister. Also, if you’re thriving in a well-governed country, why would you want to assassinate the leader of that country?
Erkang has a lot of good points so Xiaojian can’t fight him.
