EPISODE 34
Liu Qing and Jinsuo bond over the fact that they have both been hurt by Ziwei and Erkang. Not intentionally, of course. After all, for two people as hot as Ziwei and Erkang (mild sarcasm intended), a trail of broken hearts in their wake isn’t something surprising.
The gang continue on their way the next day. Everything is fine until Xiaoyanzi wants to stop for a restroom break. They get ambushed by a large group of the emperor’s men and get separated. To be fair, they all probably wanted a restroom break, they were just waiting for Xiaozanzi to say it.
Xiaoyanzi is taken away in a fishing net. Tsk tsk, not very elegant. Jinsuo falls down a shallow cliff and breaks her ankle. Ziwei, on the other hand, falls out of the carriage and hits her head on a stone, which is not bad because she is still with Erkang. OR IS IT?
So the group divide themselves out further, the Liu siblings and Xiaojian + Yongzi go on their way to get Xiaoyanzi and Jinsuo back, while Erkang and Ziwei head to their next destination to wait for the others.
In an inn, Erkang helps Ziwei with a long gash on her leg, but that’s not exactly the worst injury she’s gotten. She’s also a little nauseous and she even says she doesn’t feel great, and you know it’s no joke when ZIWEI verbally admits to being tired.
After a nap, Ziwei wakes up and this is where all hell breaks loose: she can’t see anything anymore. That’s right, her eyes have lost their sight! Whattttt…
This is more than they could take. Ziwei freaks out. Erkang freaks out. Normally, only one of them freaks out while the other remains cool-headed, but this time, it’s both, so it’s on a whole new level of hysteria. Ziwei asks Erkang to light some more candles, he lights up the entire room’s worth of candles and oil lamps.
They both cry. Great acting from Ruby Lin. This is the first time Ziwei tells Erkang to shut up — in a polite way — about how she can depend on him. The girl didn’t mean that literally, OK? She doesn’t want to depend on him LIKE THIS.
What? Xiaoyanzi and Jinsuo? They’re fine. Xiaoyanzi has it the easiest, Yongqi and Xiaojian fool the officials and take her away. The Liu siblings also find Jinsuo almost right away, so no worries there, either. The most difficult part of it all is having to listen to Jinsuo tell the Liu siblings to leave her to die in the valley and go save Ziwei instead while knowing full well that they won’t leave her.
