EPISODE 29 RECAP
Lady Ling and Qing’er move on to help Xiaoyanzi and Ziwei escape after Erkang has gone, but their attempt is thwarted by the empress and Nanny Rong.
Xiaoyanzi decides to take no crap from the empress today — actually, she never does, but today, she is extra clear about her approach. She lunges and starts punching and kicking at both the empress and Nanny Rong, giving them a good hilarious beating. It’s awesome how the guards around wait for a long time before holding Xiaoyanzi back.
Ziwei looks concerned, but girl, we all know you celebrate a little inside.
When Xiaoyanzi and Ziwei don’t come out of the palace, Erkang has no choice but to leave without them. Their only plan now is to be reckless the day after and snatch the two girls away from the execution site. It’s not like they haven’t always been reckless all along, though. But this time, they will have a legit reason to be reckless.
The next morning, as the two girls are taken out to be executed, the whole city protests. They are the “people’s princesses”, after all, you know?
This doesn’t sit well with the dowager, of course. But she finds that the entire palace has a different opinion: they love Xiaoyanzi and Ziwei too. All of the emperor’s kids plead for them. Their level of popularity keeps soaring with every reckless deed they do.
Lady Ling reasons that the palace would not have loved the two girls so much if they were as bad as the empress says. Well, I’m not sure that helps the girls, back then they would call this kind of influence sorcery.
The emperor seems to be swayed, but just then, news comes from the imperial prison that Erkang has bolted. Oops, very bad timing.
At this, the emperor orders the punishment to be carried on, no more pleading.
The girls stare.
The boys gape.
Then, the boys leap out of their hiding place and a fight with the imperial guards breaks out. It’s an even fight, but it’s taking too long and drawing too much attention.
Now, just when the boys are starting to worry, two masked strangers appear out of nowhere. Slash, cut. Ziwei and Xiaoyanzi are free from their chains. They all dash.
The two strangers are Meng Dan and Xiaojian. Yayy! You never fooled us for a day, Xiaojian, we all knew you were a secret badass.
Xiaojian also prepares a getaway carriage for them and a safe destination, for which the group is very thankful. First of all, awesome plan, Xiaojian. But secondly, are you telling me that Erkang and Yongqi did NOT prepare a carriage? What did they plan to run away on? Foot?
Although, in retrospect, not all of Xiaojian’s ideas are great. I mean… look at these bright colors on a carriage that’s supposed to be hidden from view.
Now everyone is fascinated with Xiaojian and his backstory. Still, he deliberately remains a mystery.
Anyway, they arrive at a farmer and his wife’s house — also Xiaojian’s friend — and meet Hanxiang!
Reunion time.
Once again, we find out that Xiaojian is not a simple person at all. He planned the whole thing out and calculated every step according to what he thought Hanxiang and Meng Dan would do.
It’s a happy day and they all celebrate with a big meal. Not Ziwei, though, she’s super worried about Jinsuo, who is in exile. I admit that I, just like most of these guys, completely forgot about Jinsuo until now.
Erkang promises Ziwei that he will save Jinsuo as soon as he can. Errrrr… ok, I just hope there’ll be less whining and Ziwei-obsession when she comes back.
Ziwei also wants to know if Erkang is sure about his choice of leaving home to run away with her. Girl, you don’t need to check; the one thing Erkang has an excess amount of is sureness about you.
Back at the palace, well, the drama is delicious now that all four kids have escaped right under the emperor’s nose.
