EPISODE 10
The gang goes out to visit Meng Dan at their friends’ restaurant.
Meng Dan has lost his braids and is now wearing Manchurian clothing. He’s deeply depressed and keeps drinking to pass the time, though. To be honest, until now, I’m still not on this Meng Dan / Hanxing ship. Sorry, Hanxiang, I just don’t see what you see in this guy yet.
Anyway, Meng Dan is very worried about Hanxiang. And let me tell you, Ziwei and Erkang aren’t helping.
Ziwei just kind of starts crying out of nowhere, which causes Xiaoyanzi to yell at Erkang, which then causes Meng Dan to think Hanxiang is about to be fed to sharks or something.
Jinsuo wants to say something to resolve the tension between Ziwei and Erkang, but decides not to. That’s right, Jinsuo, I think you’ve helped enough.
Angry and miserable, Ziwei starts gulping down wine. And Xiaoyanzi follows suit. OK, listen, Xiaoyanzi, Ziwei is sad, but YOU have no excuse to be drinking and losing your head right now.
Good thing Yongqi and Erkang are still sober.
A fight breaks out in the restaurant because some guy comes over and harasses Ziwei, and the next thing we know, everybody is fighting each other. Let me just say that I feel sorry for Yongqi and the palace servants who had to accompany the two girls on this trip. Erkang kind of brought this upon himself, but no one else deserves to be involved in this.
Great acting from Ruby Lin, though, Ziwei is hilarious when she’s drunk.
Aaaand of course, the Dowager chooses this very day to visit them again, and for once, I think she has good reasons to disapprove of these two girls.
The Dowager orders them to be taken to her place and soaked in bathwater to sober up. The empress and Nanny Rong look like they’re going to a party.
But somehow, the operation ends up with Xiaoyanzi having a great bath and the empress and Nanny Rong nearly drowning in the tub. That was pretty satisfying to watch.
The Dowager chucks the two girls in the dark chamber again.
While waiting for news about Ziwei and Xiaoyanzi, Erkang begins to beat himself up and only stops when Qing’er comes by to update them on the situation.
Qing’er tells them how the Empress and Nanny Rong are actually the ones who got assaulted, and Yongqi is like: that’s my girl.
In the morning, Qing’er once again bails Xiaoyanzi and Ziwei out of trouble.
Erkang and Yongqi waste no time in coming over to visit the two girls once they are released. Erkang needs to talk to Ziwei this time and he has no qualms about it.
Although, when they get to the actual talking, it looks more like he’s groveling. The snapshot below is Erkang thinking he’s about to do something romantic but it backfires immediately.
But in the end, they do talk. When they are clear on the fact that Qing’er will not steal Erkang from Ziwei, Ziwei says she will let Jinsuo have him, to which Erkang is like: er… what?
The episode ends on a happy note. Ziwei is still crying but she gets it now. This conflict was resolved a lot quicker than I thought. I was prepared for the fight to last a few more episodes.
