Quippe: People work together in this drama. They talk and work together. Though, I don’t appreciate how they make Changheng wear head accessories that make him look like an axolotl in this episode.
Dew: Did you know that axolotls’ mating ritual involves a dance? Or that they can regrow the same body parts 5 times? Do with that information as you will, Questees. Let’s get back to purifying souls, one strum at a time. And a 1- and a 2!

EPISODE 27 RECAP
Changheng and Devy finally get the music thing done. They perform a piece together and show the lost souls the way. Their collective attractiveness beats whatever magic Ronghao used to trap the souls, I guess.
When the mission is accomplished, the two men go back to being spiteful to each other. Changheng requests to talk to Orchid before he goes back home, much to Devy’s bitterness.
It’s peaceful closure. Orchid has grown up from the girl who used to worship Changheng blindly, and Changheng respects her choice. When they are done, Devy gives Orchid a piggyback ride home. I think I’m a little dizzy from all this sugar.
*Sprinkles sugar like Salt Bae on screen*
They also stop by the town market. Shangque and Jieli are hanging out there too. We learn that the people in this area celebrate Lovers’ Day every year — how convenient — so it’s all fluffiness in the air now. Orchid buys a pair of Love Locks, then turns around to see Devy has also bought two Love Locks. They stare at each other and smile while the world spins around them. Make it stop, make it stop… (not the spinning, the sugar)
Type D (Devy) Diabetes Warning!
One person isn’t happy about this: Xunfeng. He comes to ask Devy why Orchid is allowed to walk around when her life force is connected to Devy’s. Xunfeng even suggests the method Devy was going to use back then to break the curse, which is taking Orchid’s life with Chengying Sword.
This is not the right time for that conversation because Devy is busy writing his and Orchid’s names on a Love Lock.
Xunfeng makes me so nervous like any sibling with a stroke of rebellion who won’t hesitate to sacrifice my lover.
Devy replies bluntly that he loves Orchid and will not sacrifice her under any circumstances.
But Xunfeng doesn’t back off, he asks Devy what he intends to do about the lost soldiers he has promised to bring back. Devy admits that it’s his fault but offers no solution. Xunfeng moves on to declare that he and the Moon Clan will not accept someone from the Heaven Clan as their queen. It might sound ruthless, but from Xunfeng’s point of view, it looks like Devy spends a few hours with Orchid in the mortal realm and turns into a completely different person because of her.
Since one day in the immortal world equals a year in the human world, what feels like weeks/months to them is probably not even long enough for Xunfeng to pick out his day outfit. The powerful Moon Lord is now moonstruck? How can he justify that?
Devy once again promises that he has things under control. He doesn’t.
On to other things. Devy and Orchid tell Changheng that he might want to check out what Ronghao is doing in his free time, because they’re pretty sure that he tried to have them killed in the mortal realm.
Changheng takes this advice right away and confronts Ronghao. The latter confesses his sin but also says that his friendship with Changheng has been real. It is up to Changheng now what to do with him. I am thoroughly impressed at how sensible these characters are.
I’m a sucker for real feelings and friendships developing from relationships with ulterior motives. Am I the only one taking a moment to imagine what a prequel with these two and their adventures would be like?
Changheng puts that aside for the time being and goes back to the Heaven Realm to face the consequences of his awesomeness at the river bank (aiding Orchid while she escaped with the leader of the enemy tribe and all). The Heaven Lord gives him a chance to say that he will abandon Orchid and be loyal to the Heaven once and for all, but Changheng has had enough. Do what you want with me, he says, and good luck finding another War God on short notice.
Quiet quitting is not his style.
At the Moon Realm, we discover another secret: Jieli has been in contact with Ronghao’s assistant lady!
Noooo!! It’s unraveling and I’m scared for SQ’s precious dragon scale!
