During their tour around the restaurant, Pan’ers shares some small stories about her childhood with Chi Pan, and how she and Yinzhang used to dance for a living. Chi Pan is touched by the hardship she went through. Maybe a little more than touched. Uh-oh… Pan’er doesn’t think of you THAT WAY, Chi Pan.
Qianfan wakes and asks Chen Lian to take him to check on Pan’er. They run into Pan’er and Chi Pan who are walking around town. Qianfan doesn’t get out of his carriage to see Pan’er, this earns him a few rounds of reprimanding by San-niang and Chi Pan. It’s kind of well-deserved because even though Qianfan has his reasons, they are not good enough for him not to face Pan’er and not take full responsibility for the money incident.
Chi Pan tries to lift Pan’er’s mood afterward. And Pan’er, even though she’s sad, she is still clearheaded. She reminds Chi Pan that they had been enemies until only yesterday, so he shouldn’t overdo this whole friendship thing cause it’s weird.
Ouyang is back in the city and changing his tone with everyone. He gets high and mighty with Daddy Gao and blackmails Gao Hui into marrying him. Getting an attitude right away after the first success – well, that’s the first sign that his villain career won’t last long. Also, Ouyang, you didn’t win your position with your talents. You swallowed some dirt at the command of a guy who made it clear that he doesn’t mind treating you like a dog, and not even a pet dog — that hardly counts as success.
During a conversation with Changfeng, Ouyang says all is forgiven between him and Pan’er. But alone, Ouyang sits in his dark living room, with his wannabe villain face, and swears he will take revenge on Pan’er and Qianfan. And god help us, that annoying Uncle De is still alive and scheming with Ouyang.
San-niang tells Changfeng how she feels in the most straightforward way ever and asks whether he would take her. She lays out the facts: I used to be a butcher; I married once; I had a kid; I booted you into a lake without even trying. But this is what Changfeng has been waiting for. He says his part, attempts to kiss San-niang, gets slapped, and falls flat on the ground, making this not really a proposal but great entertainment for Zhaodi who is watching from a distance.
A bit later on, Chen Lian comes looking for Zhaodi. He apologizes for making assumptions about her and her mother. He also reveals a few things about Qianfan that maybe… Pan’er needs to know, and thankfully Zhaodi listens to him and passes on the information to Pan’er.
This is what I appreciate about this drama. Even if the lead couple mess up, you can always count on the other characters to be sensible and bring them around. If you’re going to gossip and spill secrets, might as well do it in a way that helps the main ship, right?
On that same day, we get to hear a little about Yinzhang’s view on life right now. She congratulates San-niang on her engagement with Changfeng and says that men are there to provide you with fun. So just enjoy the fun while you still can and break it up when it no longer works, and don’t ever dream of everlasting love because it doesn’t exist. Well, that’s a little heartbreaking to hear from Yinzhang. She has grown up but at a price. Her faith in the world has gone down significantly.
