Qianfan comes to see Pan’er that night to make sure she and her friends are not in danger from the “Hat Demon”. They talk for a bit about the “Night Revels” painting. It is a work of art with a dark history and its owner usually meets with misfortune.
Well, it’s a good thing Ouyang is associated with it then. Qianfan thinks so too.
Yinzhang runs into them and wonders why Qianfan is here so late at night. Qianfan says he’s here to see her — Yinzhang. Again. WHAT is wrong with you, Qianfan? You think Yinzhang’s poor young heart doesn’t have enough to worry over at the moment?
He gives Yinzhang a music book, takes his leaves, steals a smooch from Pan’er later that night, then actually leaves.
The scholar Du who has a crush on San-niang visits the teahouse again. This time, both he and San-niang recognize each other. Du freaks out when he realizes San-niang can easily chop him to pieces and runs away, but not before Zhaodi threatens him with a knife.
Ouyang has to climb up a mountain to a destination. Probably part of his mission. He is bitter about this suffering and vows to go back to the capital city with glory. I mean… I hardly think a briefly empty stomach, a few cold nights, and some hiking count as “suffering”, especially when he volunteered to do it in the service of the emperor. But of course, Ouyang is the type of man who likes to think of himself as a victim and blames his misfortune on the world.
When Ouyang and his young assistant reach a building, he nearly faints in front of the gates, despite the fact that it’s actually the kid assistant who has carried both of their luggage all along. Look at the size of those bags.
Zhaodi goes out one night to buy some muffins for herself. She runs into Chen Lian who also wants some muffins. But alas, the vendor only has two muffins left on his tray. They get into a fight and by accident, Chen Lian discovers something: Zhaodi is a girl. *GASPS*
While he is taken by bewilderment, Zhaodi slaps, kicks him, and dashes.
