Pan’er is a little angry at Qianfan right now. He hasn’t done anything wrong, but he is reluctant to tell her about his acquaintances who interrupted their dates.
And because Pan’er is highly sensitive about these things given that the last man she trusted unconditionally had her beaten up in the middle of the street, anything can read as a red flag to her.
Poor Qianfan doesn’t know what to do about it, of course. Keeping secrets is part of his job, it has also become a reaction. He doesn’t share information without calculating the pros and cons. The poor things are still learning to move on from being allies to being a couple.
Anyhow, Pan’er doesn’t talk to Qianfan but decides to carry out her new little mission alone. She goes to see Daddy Gao – Ouyang’s former father-in-law – whom she believes to know a thing or two about the poisoning incident that nearly got her framed and arrested the other day.
Pan’er tells Daddy Gao that he might want to keep an eye on his daughter’s servant, because while Gao Hui is a well-educated lady – Pan’er says this with a tiny hint of sarcasm – the same can’t be said about that nanny by her side.
Daddy Gao makes several attempts to put Pan’er down, but she came prepared. This is still a reckless move, though. It’s the Gao family we’re dealing with here, Pan’er, you can’t just walk into their place and demand cooperation.
But Daddy Gao loses the argument in the end, he assures Pan’er Ouyang and the nanny won’t bother her again. There’s something Pan’er didn’t foresee, though. She’s beautiful and men are naturally attracted to her whether she wants them to or not. This old dude is not an exception.
He tries to make a move on her but thankfully, Gu Qianfan appears just in time.
He casually apologizes for his “future wife’s” forwardness and offers Daddy Gao his service, which is the polite way of saying: This is your first warning, old man.
Once they’ve walked out of there – hand in hand, mind you – Qianfan calls Pan’er out for her reckless behavior. Even though she’s smart and capable, she tends to underestimate the people she deals with.
Pan’er can’t argue with that. After a while, they go back to talking about the awkward state of their relationship.
Pan’er still puts up a strong guard and Qianfan has no way to make her trust him completely yet. So he hands her his personal keys and the titles of his lands – that he just happens to carry around in public? Those are everything he has earned since he started working. I guess he’s trying to say that Pan’er can keep them as collateral just in case he betrays her. Very business-like. But what else can the man do, anyway?
They make up and chat until Chen Lian comes and informs Qianfan that he has been summoned.
That same day, Pan’er gains another employee for her teahouse. It’s the girl pilgrim who tried to get her in trouble the other day by pretending that there was poison in her tea. The girl is totally impressed by the trio and asks to join their gang.
Gao Nanny gets punished.
Between this nanny and the De guy who works for Ouyang, I can’t decide which one is more annoying. Maybe the two of them should get married and move far away to save the people around them the trouble.
