EPISODE 4 RECAP
Our three favorite deities are interrupted from their hangout with heaven rumbles and thunder from all around and the Thunder Deity is immediately given the bombastic side-eyed from the other two. But it’s not him, he said! Rain Diety Lady explains that since Youqin is the Star Spirit, his mood affects the weather so he must be going through something pretty extreme.
If you call his 1-day bride overdosing on love fruits, trying to get down and dirty with him while he hasn’t had human contact in centuries extreme, then…yes he’s peaking in the “extreme” state of mind right now. *cues thunder and more dirty talk from Yetan*
This both scares and annoys Youqin so he turns her into a nut. That doesn’t stop her from talking though. She’s still chattering away in a chipmunk’s voice.
When Yetan is back to normal, she’s determined to cause some more trouble. Not on purpose, of course. She is just hungry and “air” is not doing it for her no matter the quality or the packaging. So Yetan slaughters the first animal she sees, which is a huge bull eating grass in the garden, and makes some delicious dishes. I don’t even want to know how she did it.
It’s all part of the plan to get Youqin’s brother Qingheng’s heavenly token so she can leave. And there’s nothing better to convince someone who’s eaten air their whole life than to give them a taste of delicious Chinese hot pot. RIP heavenly bull and thousand years old crane eggs.
The food coma hits and Yetan gets the token from Qingheng.
Now comes the hardest part, actually leaving. She must have a major plan right? After all, even if she has a token, this is the heaven’s gate she’s trying to leave!
What’s the plan? Have Manman cover the gate’s guard’s eyes, of course.
The guard, with his eyes covered, could still see the princess much to Yetan and Manman’s shock. How??
Because he’s THE Erlang Shen, the God of War, with a THIRD EYE on his forehead. If I were not on the floor dying from laughter at this point, I would be so embarrassed.
Manman spits in Erlang Shen’s third eye and they both jump away. HAH!
Not only this, Yetan also steals some crane eggs and adds them to her lunch. Afterwards, she beats up a guard and flies away on her pet bird (Manman), who is very conspicuous in her bird form, by the way. She’s PINK.
It isn’t long until the deities who lost their stuff run to Youqin to complain. Magical trees have been chopped down for wood, thousand-years eggs have been boiled and eaten, priceless teas have been squandered. People want justice.
Youqin’s assistant informs him then that Youqin lost something too. It’s the bull that got slaughtered for meat. It’s probably Youqin’s mount!
Yetan finally reunites with her sister in the Void realm with the help of a shop owner. This is their first time meeting again after the carriage switch and everything comes out. At least, everything that Qingkui was made to believe came out. She assures Yetan that the Third Prince is an honest and kind person who’s willing to help both of them.
Yetan rightfully scolds her for being too gullible and maintains that the Third Prince definitely has a hidden agenda.
Yetan meets her sister in the Void realm, they are about to run away together when a Void assassin catches up with them and attacks. It’s one of Chaofeng’s men. The sisters get separated.
When the right moment comes, Chaofeng jumps in and pretends to rescue Qingkui. His poor assistant who is bad at reading very obvious signals — come on, Chaofeng is very clear about what he wants, okay? — gets struck for the act.
But Qingkui bought it, so it’s all good for them.
When Chaofeng and Qingkui get back to the palace, one of the Void Lords overhears their conversation and finds out that Qingkui is not the right bride. He threatens to take the matter to the Void King. To be honest, though, what difference does it make, anyway? These Void people look like they would torture any human princess who steps foot in their palace. So why does it matter which princess they get? Are they just looking for a reason to wage war on the human world?
Chaofeng and him get into a fight and just as he is about to take a killing shot, Qingkui puts her hands out to defend him with a sharp object. But she closes her eyes and does not see that Chaofeng uses his hidden power to kill the man before the man lands right on Qingkui’s hand.
They’re safe now and so is their switch-up secret. Chaofeng not only comes out of the fight earning Qingkui’s trust because she now thinks he was willing to fight for her but also has Qingkui as a scapegoat who actually believes she was the one who killed someone and must now take responsibility.
Youqin comes in just in time to save Yetan. She doesn’t want to go back with him because her pet bird and Qingkui are missing. No no, Yetan, you come back this instant and explain to this man why you barbecued his means of transportation.
Alone later that day, Youqin is frustrated to find that his mind cannot be cleared as easily as before anymore. Ever since Yetan shows up in his life, she causes him to have EMOTIONS. And now he has to deal with them. Like, can you imagine? A future leader of the universe having to deal with real life. Outrageous! Unbelievable! We all know that the best way to learn composure and gain wisdom is to lock yourself up and avoid all interactions — legit advice taken from the Booklet of Romance Fantasy Male Leads Who Are Sure They Won’t Fail.
As punishment for all the trouble she’s caused, Youqin puts a magical item, Iridescent Eyes, into Yetan to basically acts as a Wukong headband that can control bad behaviors. As long as she’s well-behaved, it’s not going to hurt her. But that’s the one thing she’s NOT good at, Youqin!
He later releases Manman to go back to Yetan and ponders if his punishment was too harsh for someone who just misses her sister.
Oh, Youqin, this is a loooot more complicated than just a girl missing her twin sis, you’ll see.
