Dream of Splendour – Unhelpful Recap (Ep. 33)

We have another restaurant grand opening. And this time, It’s GRAND. With fireworks and everything. By the way, Zhaodi is in girls’ clothes now. Aww, I have to say I miss her tomboy outfits.

After opening day, Pan’er and Chi Pan decide to go all out. They send invitations to a “special” performance to potential customers, mostly scholars and officials who can give them free and good publicity.

When the men arrive, they shut the restaurant’s doors and put out the candles like they’re about to carry out an assassination. But what we get two seconds later is a glorious dance performance that celebrates the history of tea and traditional cuisine. Even He Si participates, and I mean he PARTICIPATES.

On the other side of town, Qianfan is having dinner with Lord Xiao. The latter asks when Qianfan will proceed with his marriage. But Qianfan has something else in mind. He tells Lord Xiao to drop the act. He knows now Lord Xiao never cares about him.

Qianfan gashes his wrist and lets his blood fill a bowl – a small one — as a way of “returning” his blood to his biological father and cutting all ties with him.

Lord Xiao is stunned and gaping as Qianfan walks away. So, is that it for this father-son relationship? I guess I’m still confused as to which way the writer wants to take them.

That night, Qianfan comes to see Pan’er. He tries to sneak in through the window like always, but Pan’er is having none of it. She has placed a mousetrap at the spot she knew he would be beforehand; and sure enough, Qianfan’s foot gets caught. And then splash! A bucket of cold water in his face. Zhaodi thought he was a thief.

Qianfan says then he wishes to talk to Pan’er. But she tells him to leave. You’re lucky it’s only a mousetrap, Qianfan, with the way you’ve been behaving lately.

Ouyang moves on to the next step of his plan – that is, if he has one – and makes some accusations against the Empress with the Yeyan painting as proof.
