Qianfan comes back that night to tell Pan’er something important. It’s a long speech. Here’s a summary, basically:
I used to be engaged, but it’s over now and nothing happened.
Erm… that’s it, Qianfan? I was expecting to hear about a big scandal here.
Pan’er is happy with his honesty and tells him a bit about her past too. Nothing happened between her and Ouyang, either.
This whole “honesty” thing triggers a cuddling session. And a little more. And let me tell you, these two don’t look like virgins as they claim to be at all.
The next day, Yinzhang goes on a boat date with Shen Ruzuo. He compliments her looks and asks if she did it for their meeting, which Yinzhang denies. Girl, you’re wearing a red dress and having Taylor Swift makeup on, who are you trying to fool?
Anyway, Yinzhang is still reserved around this guy; and truth be told, he’s pushy and tends to make Yinzhang feel guilty every time she says no. Does the drama intend for this to be seen as cute? I’m not sure. It’s true that these behaviors are usually sold as romantic in Cdramas, but Pan’er and Qianfan are the complete opposite, though; so this drama is definitely aware of the concept of boundaries, yet they let this Ruzuo guy push it. Hmmm… very foreshadowing, I hope I’m wrong.
On the shore, Haohao and Chi Pan are spying on them. Haohao decides she will let Pan’er know about this little development between Yinzhang and Ruzuo because she knows Ruzuo to be a player. So Qianfan gives the green light but Haohao says otherwise? Interesting.
On the other side of… the same river, I guess, Pan’er and Qianfan have their own boat date, which looks a lot more scandalous than Yinzhang and Ruzuo.
The difference is both Pan’er and Qianfan are comfortable with whatever they’re doing. Pan’er says she’d like to keep running the teahouse even after they get married. Qianfan has no problem with that.
When Pan’er gets home, she is so happy that her face makes San-niang cry. Poor San-niang is missing her son and wonders when she will find happiness like her two friends have. Props to the actress here for delivering the character’s emotions so effectively.
One day, on one of her walks, Gao Hui doesn’t feel well and nearly collapses in front of Pan’er’s house. Pan’er happens to walk out at the time so she offers to take Gao Hui inside for a rest. What? You don’t just allow a stranger in your house like that, Pan’er! And you, Gao Hui, either you’re faking this or you’re too naïve – walking into a stranger’s house without a tiny bit of hesitation like that.
They talk for a while, Pan’er offers Gao Hui some clean clothes to change into. Nothing else happens. But when Gao Hui comes home, Daddy Gao knows immediately where she’s been to because she is in the clothes he saw Pan’er in a few days ago. His pissed face is hilarious.
One night, some criminals cause havoc on the street under the name of the “Hat Demon”. They need to try harder, that name isn’t even scary. Qianfan, Chen Lian and their team ride out on horseback to protect the civilians. Chen Lian is in “cool knight” mode and he saves Pan’er’s new girl worker — Zhaodi — who nearly gets trampled on.
This girl and Chen Lian used to have a dispute; but today, she gapes at his gallantry and professionalism.
