‘The Starry Love’: Ep. 31 Recap — Wudai is a Treasure

EPISODE 31

Here we are: a wedding which none of the participants is sure about. Wudai is marrying Qingkui, and Chaofeng the Snake Princess.

The human king is nervous when the Void Grooms walk into the hall. Because hey, he may dislike Yetan, but even he feels like Wudai is a bit too much for Yetan to handle.

The Void Queen proceeds to have her servant bring out the painting that is part of the engagement gifts from the human world. Oops, it’s Yetan in it, not Qingkui.

The Void King recognizes the girl in the painting as Yetan because, why, she’s the same girl that lambasted him during the battle not too long ago. He demands an explanation.

Qingkui is pretty quick to offer one: it’s Dingyun, he did it. Chaofeng stands on the side, wondering where Qingkui has learnt such flawless lying skills. Where, indeed?

Consort Xue adds in some details about how the Void Queen has been hunting and hurting them all this time. And you know we can count on Consort Xue to make things sound more tragic than they are.

The Void Queen lashes out but Wudai shields them all from her attack.

When the Void King is determined to kill Qingkui due to her being the “Heaven Realm’s property”, Wudai gives him the ultimate choices: let her go or I die with her.

The Void King is not amused, but he is also exhausted with all this fighting back and forth and his sons wanting to die for the women who have insulted him out loud. He tells everyone that has to do with the Heaven Realm and this tacky romance drama to get out. That includes: Qingkui, Chaofeng, Haichao, Sushui, Consort Xue, and the mortal king.

Down in the Beast Realm, Youqin is recuperating. He and Yetan have changed into darker outfits. To make a point, I guess.

Qingkui finds them. Big reunion.

The human king experiences bodily pain at the sight of his two daughters holding hands and arms with their boyfriends. He thought Qingkui would know better than this, but nooo, she’s looping arms with a “devil”.

The king kind of accepts Youqin, but Chaofeng is another story. He doesn’t let Chaofeng call him father-in-law even after Consort allows AND encourages him to beat Chaofeng with a spiked stick.

They all go back to the royal palace. Here the two couples find some relaxing time. But Youqin makes a point not to relax until he has some answers to an important question: why does the king hate Yetan so much? His devilish, devious, perfect Yetan, whoever dares dislike her is his enemy.

Youqin confronts the king, who tells him the whole story.

Yetan’s birth was tied to a bad luck star so people blamed everything that went wrong on her. The royal court even requested her to be executed multiple times.

So the king had to lock Yetan in one place and promised the court he would marry her off to the Void Realm. He also pretended to hate her so that the old, closed-minded guys of his court would believe that he was on the same page with them and leave Yetan alone.

Assassination attempts happened when Yetan was a kid and the poor girl was so scared that she started to sleep on the roof beams.

While the king is telling Youqin all of this, Yetan, who brings them cakes, arrives outside the room and hears everything. So no one announces her arrival? Where are all the eunuchs who usually detain people from seeing kings when it’s an emergency?

Anyway, Yetan steps in and confronts her father right away.
